Extremely solid PPV outing by WWE, 'backlash' for a few years now has produced a better overall PPV than Mania.
Quite annoyed at Brock losing - however you book it he's lost a ton of momentum and the final 'big win over Brock' has been blown at the first outing. That said, if you were gonna book Cena to win, it was excellently done. He was bloodied up instantly and saved by the refs twice, Brock toyed and relentlessly killed him for what must've been 20 minutes. The match went on so long that even I started feeling bad for Cena. Should've killed this match in the opening few minutes. Even though this is technically the 2007 Cena match formula, it was perfect. As perfect as fucking up your biggest draw for the next year can be.
Punk/Jericho (in hilarious street fight attire - love it!) put on another great showing, very different than their WM match. I'd definitely watch them another time on PPV but two straight losses for Jericho, it's hard to see a third.
Bryan's match was also a storyline match, also showcasing Bryan's technical technique which was great. Shocked at the non-partisan Chicago crowd, hearing the "NO!" chants. Far more of the WWE Universe in attendance than last July!
The rest of the card was pretty decent alright, no real clunkers; well pretty much as well as you're gonna do with what they've booked (eg Cody/Show). So overall thumbs up!
Just don't expect casual fans who'd pay to see Lesnar stick around after he's lost. In his first match back. Overall great job by WWE.

In a vaccum it was a very good show, but as far as long-term booking goes, it was a waste of so much potential. Not only did you have Brock lose to a guy who may be taking some time off, not only did you see the continued burial of Ziggler, but you effectively ended Punk-Jericho and Bryan-Sheamus.
So where do you go now? Unless you book Punk-Bryan, you're S.O.L. when it comes to top level matches. This is why it was a mistake to rush into Lesnar-Cena. The momentary bump in interest isn't worth diminished returns in the future.

i think everyone is over egging this end goal that could have been reached by not having lesnar pinned. many hundreds of thousands still watched brock after he lost to mir and velasquez. i dont know why it should be any different in wrestling.

The difference is in wrestling you can control the outcome of the fights to maximize interest/earning potential.
It's one thing if he loses at SummerSlam or a big show...BUt to have him lose in his first match back to a guy that's leaving is short-sighted booking. I personally wouldn't have brought Brock back anyway, as I feel it sends a bad message to the locker-room. But if you're going to bring him back and pay him all of this money, then you might as well try to maximize your investment.
Honestly, if I were booking it I would have put Brock in a squash match against someone like Mason Ryan or Ryback. Show the crowd that there's a difference between these WWE-created "monsters" and the "legitimate athlete" in Lesnar.

I agree in some respects but Lesnar dominated that match and cena only got the flash win. You can still heat Lesnar up if you do it right, plus dont forget Cena is still a wrestler too, that match last night did wonders for him. You felt his career might have been flagging had he lost again, but he reminded us how much of a superstar he truly is and he'll be here in a years time, brock wont. Cenas a real warrior and i think he needed that as much as anything after underperforming in The Rock feud.
Going into last night, i didnt think Cena needed the win but now i realize actually he did and to me he babyfaced himself to everyone yesterday, you cant not have respect for the guy

You can still heat Lesnar up if you do it right, plus dont forget Cena is still a wrestler too, that match last night did wonders for him. The WWE is paying Lesnar about $5 million to work a total of 30-something dates over the span of a year. He's not going to be on TV every week, or on every PPV. He's not a regular character on the show. They've already used about 16% of his appearances for the entire year. Cena is teflon. He lost to the Rock at Mania and the kiddies still love him. It drives me crazy how people mix hate for Cena the character with hate for Cena the person. I can not stand John Cena the character - his smirks, his mannerisms, his jorts, his wrestling style, I hate watching him on my TV. However, I have plenty of respect for John Cena the human being, who by all accounts is a very nice person who is giving of his time, works his ass off, tries his best, etc. etc. etc. I have tremendous respect for Cena the person. I just don't want to see him on my TV, ever.

Im here to talk about the main event
Great match, i mean a really great match ruined by the worst finish possible.
Even worse when you then find out that Cena is having a break. WTF?
So dumb, Brock should have won, allowing Cena to take a break and continue the 'Cena on a downward spiral' story, setting up a HUGE Cena return. They really have missed a great opportunity here, the timing was perfect.
Now you've pissed the majority of fans off, crippled your monster heel and super Cena is back way too soon. (I personally didnt want him back at all but this is a joke)
Fuck you WWE, you had it in the palm of your hands and you blew it, well done.

I feel the same way. I was cursing up a storm when that bell rang. The worst thing about it was that he cut a fucking promo after being nearly killed! Pathetic.
