I know it won't be on that WWE service. What was that called again?

TNA:
"It has come to our attention that several internet news sources have falsely attributed statements to TNA, its executives and broadcasting partner. These false statements constitute defamation and if necessary we will seek all legal remedies available to us."
Observer article stated that Dixie did not respond to questions regarding the subject. Basically, the story is that DA gave notice via email to "people who had to know" that TNA was not being renewed for Year #2. I would think Meltzer has a copy of that email and/or has multiple sources who have stated as much before he reported this.
Besides, the TNA issued statement is vague enough that it does not actually deny the basic story.

As a casual observer who hasn't seen an episode of Impact in years, this really doesn't surprise me. I never see TNA in the media in any way where they're trying to get my attention or doing anything really different. Billy Corgan wouldn't have helped, in fact I don't think he remembers he has the job most days. All I can say is that pro wrestling's image and advertising problems are the same at the top and the bottom. I can't go to local indie shows because of the homophobia, misogyny and vulgarity, and WWE will never shake that stereotype at the corporate level no matter how they try to make their company look more progressive. I think that if fans want a real competitive pro wrestling landscape it starts by making it more inclusive and less alienating at the local level, so eventually companies like TNA can shake the hillbilly image and make real ad revenue for their partners.

Billy Corigan's name is done. He might as well be Kathy Griffin, Johnny Fairplay, Screech, Mic Foley or Kurt Angle.
Its not the hillbilly image they have to shake, its their name Tits and Ass. My son can't say it without giggling. There's no way I'm telling his mom I'm gonna take him to go see a TNA show. I can only imagine going to a sponsor and saying Huggie's diapers, will you sponsor TNA? We can go to a different forum and ask them hey does anyone like TNA? And watch the jokes fly in.

TNA: "It has come to our attention that several internet news sources have falsely attributed statements to TNA, its executives and broadcasting partner. These false statements constitute defamation and if necessary we will seek all legal remedies available to us." That's a non-denial denial if I ever read one... and not a very good one, even their PR makes them sound terrified.

It sounds like they're saying the Internet said we said and we didn't say it. Like there's probably something in a contract somewhere that says no one can say anything about a status of a contract.

Well those dirtsheets did fuck up any potential bargaining power TNA would've had to any mark network who doesn't know anything about the wrestling business and would look at their viewership and be "hey, that's got a built in fanbase already"....All those people have to do now is Google them and know they are desperate.
Atleast Spike weren't total pricks and kept it in-house and let them leave with a bargaining chip.

Dixie on the Austin podcast said they left Spike on their accord to move to Destination America.
Face Palm. That's why I like wrestling. The dillusional people involved in the business.

Well those dirtsheets did fuck up any potential bargaining power TNA would've had to any mark network who doesn't know anything about the wrestling business and would look at their viewership and be "hey, that's got a built in fanbase already" It was not the "dirtsheets" who found out about the DA situation. It was Meltzer who wrote about it. Everybody else was just quoting him. I suspect TNA talked to every network when the Spike deal ended last year, so I would find it hard to believe there is anybody new who is a "mark." I see your point though. Alternatively, you could look at this situation in another way. If nobody had said anything, everybody would think that TNA was stable right now and taking the promotion for granted. Now, we know TNA is on life support. The TNA fans can absolutely make a difference by supporting the promotion, DA, and the advertisers of Impact. Meltzer said the story is still ongoing meaning that if enough of the public wants TNA badly enough, DA will give them another season. Just pretending that nothing is wrong and not getting any more supporters was only going to doom TNA on DA. Now is TNA's chance to rally their fanbase.

Meltzer is THE dirtsheet.
And there are over 500 cable channels out there, and under what seems like equally enough subsidiaries that TNA didn't go to EVERY syndication network. Fight Network knew full well of TNA's troubles and still signed a deal with them.

TNA hired some agency to do the negotiations last time. The agency probably talked to everybody that might reasonably air Impact in the U.S.. For Canada, I do not believe TNA is getting much money for the Fight Network. I seem to remember that not too long ago, TNA was sending tapes of Impact to Canada for nothing.
It is not like high production costs + low ad sales in wrestling is a secret. It is also not a secret that the WWE had few (maybe no other legit) suitors the last time their contract was up for renewal in the U.S. because of the ad situation.
Lucha Underground is actually in similar situation to TNA in that they might not even have a 2nd season if they cannot get more tv exposure and advertisers. The high production value LU lost lots of money for season 1 while being on El Rey and Unimas.

Lucha could've slashed their budget in half if they didn't do those highly produced backstage segments

Those highly produced backstage segments are glorious, though.
Minus Johnny Morrisundo's horrendousundo acting, that is.

Anyone remember the last time anyone quoted PWTorch?
thelaw is correct. Wrestling is dying. Imagine any TV show with 16 - 32 characters. WWE might be forced to keep wrestling alive.
