It sounds a bit like a child who's proclaimed himself World champion & his friend has said "Well I'm universal champion so I'm more better."
Thoughts on the name & thoughts on the idea of a second world... Sorry *coughs* first universal championship. What belt design would you like to see?
By the way I'm the multi-verse champion so I'm the most best.

I don't mind the name of the title, it leaves the door open for a possible alien invasion angle.
Seriously though, a 2nd title was inevitable with a brand split. Nothing wrong with the name, it is unique and ties in with the "WWE Universe" moniker.
Definitely not worth getting hung up on. The important thing is how they book it, and Seth Rollins vs. Finn Balor is a hell of a start.

I'm not a big fan of the name, but I do like the idea of not bringing back the World Heavyweight Championship. If you want to get serious about a "New Era", then introducing a title without a lineage and then booking it to mean something is a big step.
Overall, the introduction of a new title (and the positioning of Balor and Rollins as the top contenders) seems to highlight WWE's current philosophy: make "new RAW" a show that wrestling fans that don't watch any of our product will watch, and make "new Smackdown" a show that people who already liked "old RAW" will watch. So basically, last night's RAW was the show that we're being told Smackdown is going to be. I'm curious to see how Smackdown is presented tonight and how the shows continue to define themselves going forward.

From a business that has had titles called Brass Knuckles, X Divison, Zero G, Ironman Heavymetalweight, Open the_____Gate and an Internet championship the name isn't really that bad. Like it's been mentioned it's a good move to create a whole new title rather than try to lump it into a previous history and this way it stands out from just being another World title.
I think it's almost set that Rollins is leaving with it but Balor is starting off so damn strong getting a high profile match for his first PPV. This could also go into a rematch and gives us a break from Roman Reigns which might actually help Roman in the bigger picture.

I dislike the name. AAA did it right with the megachampionship. Maybe Raw should have moved away from a belt and instituted a different accessory altogether. Not sure what though. A ring is too small. A crown is too corny. Various lame KOTRs ruined the concept. A necklace too feminine. A sceptre maybe. Use the term emperor instead of champion. The Emperor of the WWE. That's it. Emperor! Perfect for the eventual reascension of Roman Reigns. "I'm not a good guy..." You get the idea.

Also, isn't it a bit odd that a title called the Universal Championship is only a part of one brand? That's pretty much the exact opposite of what "universal" means.

Their champion had a staff for a long while and their tag champs hold a shield that is split in 2.

"Universal" reads either like a lucha title or a comic book mcguffin.
So, yeah, I like it.

It sounds a bit cheesy and something out of Power Rangers, but in time we'll kinda get used to it. Then they'll merge the titles in 5 years anyway. It's not my biggest gripe. Cutting to a break half way through a match is a more pressing issue for me.

Title could be named the "fakey fake belt of ultimate fakers title" and would still be taken serious if you don't treat it like a joke.
A names is just a name.

That belt looks an awful lot like the old ROH title belt...perhaps that was the inspiration for it? I doubt the new Universal belt is going to be that subtle in any case. Maybe not quite spinners or smoking skulls but it is obvious the name is meant to show Stephanie trying to one-up Shane by going one better than world so I am expecting the belt design to be highly elaborate to continue the theme. When I heard it my immediate thought was of a sci-fi skit I saw a while back where aliens invade the Miss Universe contest, making the valid point that it should not be closed to only humans...wonder if Vince considered that when naming it?! Perhaps he's hoping for it... Apart from that, no real issues with the name, I actually find it quite aesthetically pleasing. And as has been pointed out it doesn't matter what the name is as long as it's booked strong. Not sure having Balor win it straight off the back would necessarily achieve that mind, at least to the majority of viewers to whom the title is supposedly named after, who aren't necessarily aware of his past accomplishments. Probably better letting Rollins have it to give it credence before then letting Balor chase him for it

Personally never a fan of that belt, it was way to blocky and plain. As for the original point it wasn't really a tribute to Ric Flair's NWA title and more just a update to the WCW title, which WWE had already named the World heavyweight title when the Invasion ended in November 01. It was more a case of WWE continuing a "legacy" then creating a new one.

I think the name sounds ridiculous. I am not a native english speaker, and to me the name sounds like "Multifunctional championship". Maybe that is a good name, because it would imply that the belt is actually good for something, multiple things even. But based on their booking maybe they should just have called it the "Face of the company championship".
