Hey everyone - haven't seen this posted yet, so thought I'd kick it off.
The first thing that I'm curious about regarding WK11 is the gate - according to Chris Charlton and others nearby, the show will almost certainly draw a better house than last year's dome show.
This is shocking to me. I was sure business had nowhere to go but down after losing Nakamura and AJ, and also with January 4th falling on a Wednesday.
Does anyone here know exactly why tickets are moving so well, other than what we can infer from it, like Omega and Naito being better draws than they'd been given credit for, perhaps?

don't know specifics, all I heard is the same as you have, that presale tickets are more this year than last year.
Going to be watching this one or two matches at a time over the next couple of days. Now that I am in my 30's, I can no longer stay up all night when I have to work the next day. haha.

As a newer fan to NJPW over the past few years, why is Wrestle Kingdom always held on January 4th regardless of if its a weekday or weekend?

That's a great question for the JAW guys.
Woke up in time to see most of the Naito/Tanahashi match - incredible. Okada/Omega is extraordinary so far, also.

Naito and Omega have been made this past year. It could also help that the main event isn't Tanahashi/Okada, as much as that's a brilliant match it's really played out and I bet some fans aren't bothered about seeing it again at the Tokyo Dome. The 2 big surprises to me from this show is Adam Cole winning back the ROH title and Omega not winning, less so the second. I adore Omega and if this past year has shown anything it's that he can be IWGP champ, my guess is that he could win it sometime this year.

Only seen the main event so far. Amazing match. If it is not my match of the year for 2017, I can't wait to see what tops it.
Pretty surprised that Omega didn't win the title, but this performance in NO way hurt him what so ever. I think it's a pretty safe bet that at some point in 2017 he will win the title. I believe no G-1 winner has won the NJPW Title on January 4 since they introduced that stipulation.
Cole/O'Reilly all came down to if O'Reilly had resigned or not with ROH. This result makes it obvious that he has not resigned as of yet.

That kind of lessens the G1 for me, yes winning is still a big deal however what you've won doesn't result in winning the title. It's like if the Money of the Bank lead to everyone cashing in and losing.

That really ought to change next year.

I really thought Omega was going to win and then they would go back to Okada in the summer or something.

It also helps that Omega didn't hit the 1 winged angel while Okada used a lot of Rainmakers to beat him. You have that story for a rematch built in.

I think Omega will be champ before the US show.

Omega is taking a bit of a break from Japan but that could be storyline so that fans aren't questioning why he isn't getting a title rematch sooner, especially since it looks like Minoru Suzuki is the next challenger.

Of course speculation is going crazy right now about Kenny Omega's break. Of course those big bad three letters from America are bouncing around everywhere.
I would cry if Kenny went to the WWE right now. And not tears of joy.

Finally caught the main event after all the hullabaloo about Meltzer giving out his 2nd 6* rating. It was one of the fastest 45 minutes of my life.

Cole/O'Reilly all came down to if O'Reilly had resigned or not with ROH. This result makes it obvious that he has not resigned as of yet. There may also be an element of ROH sanctioning the switch on an NJPW show to demonstrate that such matches aren't simply filler where it is unlikely anything of note will happen, to better foster the relationship between the two companies. And where better to do it than at the biggest show of the year? Wouldn't be surprised if a similar switch happens where an IWGP title changes hands on an ROH show in reciprocation this year. Unlikely to be the heavyweight title though. Maybe the IC at a stretch?
