Never played fire pro wrestling....didn't want to overpay for a foreign product tbh. Human & Spike (devs of Fire Pro) and Yukes (Smackdown) & AKI (No Mercy etc) are all Japanese? Wholey US produced & published wrestling games have only come about since 2K took over the WWE license (and im not even sure about that because im pretty sure Yukes are still involved?) I got Fire Pro R for $15 off the US PSN store a couple of years back and its completely in English. You just need a usb stick to download one of the roster files and the whole thing is full of real world wrestlers. If you're into emulators you can play a load of them for free too - Super Fire Pro Wrestling X Premium is a snes game that you can emulate on any android device (or computer) at this point and is probably the easiest way to see what Fire Pro is about without spending any money. Anybody play WWE Allstars when that came out? It had a great art style and a pretty decent engine. It felt a lot like a reimagining of Wrestlefest...

I know it's not the type of game you guys are talking about, but for me Extreme Warfare Revenge was crazy addictive once I got into it. For those of you who don't know it it's basically Football Manager meets wrestling.

...But is No Mercy better than Fire Pro Wrestling Returns with one of the many easily available edit files that give you pretty much every wrestler you can think of? Yes.

Inspired by the thread I was going through my older games and found TNA Impact. I barely touched it at the time but going back to it now shows a decent foundation for a series to build on - it's somewhere between the regular WWE games and WWE Allstars in terms of playing it. It's by Midway so nice to look at, fast paced to play and slickly presented but overall a little shallow and repetitive.
I'm actually having more fun with it than I did last years WWE game (which in itself put me off buying this years WWE game).

TNA Impact was one of the worst games I ever played that was next gen. First off the targeting system was broken, the move set was spotty, the game play was sub par and the collision detection was off.
I hate arcade and non realistic wrestling games, just like i never liked arcade sports games.

For those of you who don't know it it's basically Football Manager meets wrestling. I was hooked on that for a while as well... a lot of fun until you figure out the patterns. Sign a bunch of cheap guys that can work and just let them have 4-5 stars matches with each other forever!

@ deezy
Not even NBA Jam or NFL Blitz?
Man, give me NBA Jam over a regular NBA game any time.
I guess you didn't like Wrestlemania the arcade game or In Your House either? (The Mortal Kombat style games where Taker threw actual Tombstones etc).

NBA Jam, Blades of Steel and games from the 32 bit era were fun, but when polygons and graphics went 3D and the engines, game mechanics and AI got better, they don't measure up IMO. Give me EA NHL or NBA 2K over those anyday. And I didn't like In Your House one bit, the Super Nintendo Royal Rumble and Raw were much better. I also prefer UFC over mortal kombat, not saying those games are bad or am I trying to belittle anyone's taste in games. I just happen to like sims more than arcade.

For me it's a tie between No Mercy & Virtual Pro Wrestling 2. Both stellar games. Don't think I've played a new wrestling game in years, although the NXT version of 2K17 has tempted me.
