I know that sounds very insulting to other promotions, but if you would indulge me I would love to know what you think of this idea I have.
WWE is never going to be in competition with another promotion. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. Think of WWE becoming an organisation similar to the NFL in the sense that it controls multiple teams with their own drafted players. NXT is already it's own brand, developing the talent that will fill these rosters. Buying the rights to 'Lucha Underground' would give more wrestlers a spotlight and a chance to shine. ECW could be rebranded out the Hammerstein Ballroom incorporating live music and storylines geared towards the 18+ crowd. Show these brands on the network exclusively while keeping 'Monday Night RAW' available through cable providers.
If you read this, I thank you and look forward to your feedback.

Great idea if only WWE hadn't already screwed it up with ECW and WCW back in the day. WWE will eventually own everything and that's gonna be a sad day as they've shown they can only do "WWE style".

If that were to happen id seriously probably stop following Pro Wrestling. I hardly watch WWE these days as it is.

WWE already is the NFL of wrestling. Ubiquitous.
Don't mean there aren't other leagues. Branching out with bought out ventures don't work, like NFL Europe.

It would make no sense for WWE to buy Lucha Underground.
The brand itself is largely unknown and the tape library isn't worth anything. Also, most of the Mexican luchadors are already signed to AAA so they wouldn't be part of any buyout, and I can't see WWE too interesting in absorbing the seven year contracts of guys like Big Zeke.
If WWE wanted to give more wrestlers a spotlight and a chance to shine, they could create their own secondary show, like they have done many times in the past. They don't need to spend the extra money to acquire a television show that has been on the air for a few months and by all accounts is operating deep in the red.

It's funny to say this but I was thinking the same thing the other day watching the womens division yet again get a bad screw job by Vinnie and his /30/ second match...
I was thinking, Hey if they did NxT why can't they start a new wrestling show for JUST the female talent?! Make it exclusive to WWE Network, they certain have the breath of talent (and some suck yes) but they have enough DIVA's to fill the roster and up and comers could also be there, have their own show and own writers etc, make it a one hour show on the Network and voila, one more "exclusive" to WWE.
WWE has to start thinking more broadly in my opinion and this could be a way to give the ladies a place to show their true talent. I'm not saying keep them only on that show but at least this would be THEIR show, and then if the RAW matches get shorter at least they aren't getting slighted.
They could then have a tag and a single heavyweight championship for the ladies.

Maybe not their own show, because that would require an effort from WWE to create storyline's (which will suck). But like an annual Women's only PPV. Some kind of 2 day tournament event at some University. Call it Queen of the Ring. Winner gets a title shot at WrestleMania.

Is WWE even wrestling anymore? They're the big dog like said above, but if I'm asked about Pro Wrestling, I'll point out Lucha, NJPW, RoH, or any other brand that shows actual wrestling

Of course WWE is pro wrestling.
And if someone asks me about pro wrestling, I'll say "WWE" since the general public has no idea what LU, NJPW, ROH, PWG or any other acronym stands for.

At least they know what WWE is. In my country most people still call it WWF and when I tell them Hulk Hogan is retired and the rest is deceased they will go "WHAAAT?!". But this is Italy to you.

I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that the WWE will forever be the market leader. It seems likely that their biggest competition will come from overseas, like NJPW, but you just never know. Plus, you have the variable of Vince McMahon eventually retiring, and we just can't predict how that will go. Hunter seems to have a grasp on things but it will inevitably be different when he (or whoever else) takes charge.

The title of this thread alone would make Vince McMahon's head explode... WWE isn't wrestling, it's "sports entertainment"
They don't have wrestlers, they have "superstars"... they don't have fans, they have the "universe"
WWE and their moronic branding aside, WWE wouldn't maintain a variety of promotions. They couldn't even maintain the brand split, or anyone remember WWECW? NXT actually appears to be the first time they've really committed long term to a development territory, it's a good thing HHH squeezed the training center out of the company otherwise even that might not have been so. Sure it can sound good in theory, but they're a public company and they'd only be safe until the next time the company got into a cash crunch and then they'd be chopped faster than you can say Ric Flair.
Anyway, a good variety of viable independents is probably the best thing for WWE and the wrestlers. Keeps people working, fans coming out and maintains some variety... and doesn't cost WWE a dime, nor threaten them in any way, shape, or form.

Some kind of 2 day tournament event at some University. Call it Queen of the Ring. Winner gets a title shot at WrestleMania. Give it to Stephanie McMahon, she keeps saying she wants equality . She could be the booker of that show and fuck it up instead of ruining RAW. Let Vince run RAW again and fire all that string of writers from Hollywood! et some REAL people with wrestling knowledge... NxT is working because it's HHH's baby and you can tell he is proud of it. Women's division in their own show could work if done right, managed much like NxT with less people trying to control the show!

WWE doesn't need to get any bigger. They do need more content on their channel. I got sick of WWE haven't watched in 7 months now outside of the Rumble.
