In a way, I would think WWE should prefer to have some of those independents at least reasonably close. They could send agents to scout the talents while they're all within close proximity, rather than having them fly/drive around the country. Then again, I suppose WWE has their preferred plan of holding NXT tryouts, making hopeful talents go to them.

I have a feeling WWE doesn't need to send out scouts everyone sends them tapes or goes to Florida. I remember Cornette talking about somebody moved to KY, lived out of his car and worked for free to get found by the WWE at OVW.

Sending out scouts is integral. Yes, some can be found by looking at tapes sent in but Kevin Steen was hired based on William Regal scouting him, and most of the amateur wrestlers-turned-pro were hired based on scouting -- Lesnar, Benjamin, Angle, Swagger.

Scouting will always be part of the recruitment process. Road Dogg even asks fans on Twitter for suggestions on indy shows to attend.

It's the same reason pro football, baseball, soccer & basketball teams have scouts they send out instead of just relying on what's sent in to them.

I remember posting this thread awhile back. WWE essentially picked the best out of the Indy's. Now, with NXT beginning their own tours, it has virtually become a WWE-managed super-Indy fed. Just an observation.

I love how certain parts of the IWC seem to act like NXT isn't a WWE property.

You're 15 years out of date with those last 4. I'm fine with NXT being a super indie fed. WWE can do indie better than ROH, TNA and Louisville.

Most of the recruits are still at the Performance Centre.
They have a stable of amateur wrestlers and football players they've recruited from college.

Not sure why dude had to bump an 8 month old thread to post an observation that has nothing to do with the ridiculous original post about why WWE was signing guys, but whatever.
