It's so jarring to watch SummerSlam '89 or the 1990 Royal Rumble and hear Schiavonne's voice. But....these were two great PPV's so it makes up for it

I liked Tony overall until about 1998 when he really started to mail it in. At the time, I never liked him and Larry Z on Nitro, but having rewatched them in recent years, they were a good team that had a solid mix of calling the action and progressing the stories.

I get to hear Schiavonne every morning. He is the "Sports Director" on a talk radio station in Atlanta. Being from Atlanta and growing up with NWA then WCW, Schavonne was the voice of wrestling for me more than any of the then WWF guys.

Schiovanne was pretty great for a long time in the NWA & WCW. Sure his last year wasn't great...But other than the talent, nothing in that company was great back then. I've heard him call baseball, and the guys a very good all-around broadcaster. Say what you will about his last year in WCW...But even then he's better than most of the announcers in TNA/WCW right now.
Besides...I'll always give him credit for his awesome slam on Regal during the Final Nitro. Tony was totally like, "Screw it...Vince ain't gonna hire me anyway; I might as well keep it real". I respect the dude for that.

Schiavonne comes off as a pretty good guy from his Twitter posts.

Genuinely excited for the product and good at getting the stories in the matches across.

My main problem with Tony Schiavone, especially during 97-01 is the fact it felt like he don't care about the in ring action but just pushing the main event angles (same can be said about Bobby Heenan in WCW). It totally felt like the guy doesn't even love wrestling and just there to push the notes given to him.
His work in WWF was decent, and when he really wanted to, he could call a match, I just found this matter disturbing and ruining the fun most of his matches he called.
I do hope they do a shoot interview with him someday because I find those non wrestlers personalities have tons of stories and opinions to share.
Also, the guy didn't even pronounce the move "Powerbomb" properly.
I did enjoy this angle, wish it had more following:
