This is taken from Wrestlezone: "The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that WWE officials already have a match planned for the main event of WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans: Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Title.
They note that that does not mean that WWE’s plans for next year include Roman Reigns beating Undertaker at WrestleMania or that Brock Lesnar will hold the title for a full year. According to the report the goal is still very much to make Reigns the next “John Cena” of the company. WWE is once again looking at building Reigns up for a whole year for a coronation at WrestleMania 34.
The idea between now and then is for Reigns to replace Cena as the new face of the company. Not just when he wins the title."
So the main event might be Brock/Reigns again and they're completely glossing over the fact that his "coronation" was meant to happen last year with Reigns facing Triple H.

The only way this makes sense to me is if they turn Roman sooner rather than later, he thrives as a heel and earns the respect of more fans, and then flips back around Rumble to chase Lesnar.

I was thinking that was going to be the Summerslam program. Little surprised that they are planning on holding it off for another year still.

Brock/Reigns 1 was fantastic, so I'm all for it....but I better get my damn Reigns/Cena match sooner rather than later dammit!!!! I could see turning him and flipping him to Smackdown and AJ to RAW post-Mania. Then you have a new top heel on Smackdown, some moderately fresh programs with Orton, a possible face Wyatt, Cena somewhere down the line and hell, maybe even Harper or some other guys you need to elevate. Then you find a way to bring it together to make the main event of next Mania a Smackdown vs. Raw match that cross promotes on both of your big shows and (in theory, obviously) boosts ratings for both of them. But that might be giving them too much credit.

I think it's worth turning Reigns heel, as John mentioned his new smug/cocky character is working for him and could work even better as a heel. Plus if you want the fans to get into someone make them a heel, it gives guys so much more freedom and fans generally end up making them turn by cheering for them. As for Reigns/Cena, I'm sure you'll get it. It'll be the new face vs. the old face match. But right now you have to deal with both being on different brands and Cena doing part time.

He still sucks at promos. at least Cena knows how to turn boos into energy and spit it into the haters' faces while cutting great promos.

the only issue with this (other them continuing to push Roman even though the majority of fans have told them they aren't interested) is what it means for Balor.
When Balor returns to TV the natural story is "I never lost that belt, I want a chance to win it again" - but if Lesnar is the champ and they are going to leave the belt on him for the year leading up to WM34.....that either means you don't tell the story, or you tell but Balor loses which slots him right under the "big top guys" like Lesnar and Reigns.

Well it's not written in stone that Lesnar will be holding it for a full year, it would help that story for sure but he doesn't have to hold it for that long. The Balor story is the obvious thing to do with him when he's back on TV so I say go for it, hell even if he loses to Lesnar it's still a main event. Although I would want Balor to win otherwise he comes off as a fluke who wouldn't have kept the title anyways if he stayed healthy.

Roman is atrocious on the mic and comes off as arrogant and very unlikable at least to me. Cena on the other hand carries himself like a boss. The guy is the most perfect spokesman for the company. Cena is like a Hulk Hogan or The Rock, he's cut from that cloth of greatness. Roman is more like a Kevin Nash or Lex Luger. A guy that is acceptable as a top guy, looks the part, but will never be a All time Legend. Forcing him down our throats as a babyface is a terrible idea. I'd much prefer to see him turn heel just for something different. He's still a talented performer. i just don't see him on the same level as a John Cena.

Vince McMahon does. So it really doesn't matter what we think. We just pay money and if we don't like the product we can always turn to... wait... let me think... ECW ripoff bush leagues? uess that'll do it for some of us. Heard Highspot is putting out a series of DVDs on... sigh... ECW.

Kinda makes sense, the only 2 guys in history to beat Taker at Mania fight it out to see who the best man really is. There's a story there so I'm okay with it.

Plus the one match they did have neither man beat the other so there's still that hanging over them both.
