During the WWE Q4 Fiscal 2016 Earnings (think WWE's Finances) Conference Call Vince McMahon made an interesting response to an question from an Analyst named Mike Hickey:
"As far as the brand extension is concerned, it's working extremely well. It's working exactly like we thought it would." "If you like the product Raw, you are more likely to watch the product on SmackDown. There is some crossover, which is what we wanted."
"At the same time, we are building -- new viewers come in." "We're introducing new viewers in SmackDown, and that just in an of itself is what we're trying to do as well, and are doing." " And more viewers come to SmackDown, then more viewers are likely to watch Raw as well, so it's a big wheel keeps on turning." " That's our strategy."
"And also it's like you have fresh talent coming from one brand to the next, so in essence, if you haven't seen a Roman Reigns on SmackDown, then what he does if and when he does come to SmackDown, then that's really a big thing. So it freshens up talent." "It gives us much longer range in terms of the use of those talents and the IP that goes with them, so that's obviously that in addition to more live events."

I kind of read that as Vince just picking Reigns as an example to prove his point. But saying that I could see a story where AJ gets so annoyed with Shane that he wants to be traded and Steph trades for Roman as she doesn't want him on Raw, it could also continue the Steph/Foley problems if Steph does it without talking it with him first.
Don't see what other high profile match AJ would have besides Shane, the world title is already taken. Looks like the US title is already booked up, looks like undertaker is booked, and AJ is far too entrenched in the top tier that throwing him in a multi-man or battle royal would be a step down.

Like John mentioned on Review-a-Smackdown you can't have Orton turn on Bray straight away as you've got over 6 weeks before the show. You know what I'd be fine if they went back to Cena for one last match, build it as the final battle and give it a gimmick. Put AJ over since Cena is going again after Mania, it would be a great match and AJ can get so much more out of it rather than having to sell for Shane. Plus this could be his babyface turn and I'm hoping Bray keeps the title at Mania and that can be a program for after.
