John and Wai talked on Review-A-Raw this week about the WWE wanting WrestleMania 33 to have an equal or greater match as Okada vs Omega from WK11. From all of the active WWE roster (Raw, Smackdown & NXT), who would be the two guys to outdo Okada vs Omega?
My pick (and I believe this was mentioned by John and Wai) would be AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura.

Jericho and Owens could have a great match but it would be a very different kind of match, I think. AJ vs Nakamura wouldn't have months of build. It would just be a match. (There's only so much the WWE could reference from their NJPW program.) The build and the story is part of the match, even if it doesn't happen during the match itself.

We've also seen AJ/Nakamura at Wrestlekingdom last year and while very good it was no where near Okada/Omega level. Maybe if they are given a chance to let loose it might but I'm still not sure. I actually think AJ/Rollins could be great, either that or AJ/Balor but that would mean Balor being 100% before then.

AJ/Balor would be a viable contender on the off-chance Balor's to return at the Rumble. Balor can't really do any vengeance gig since Rollins is now face, and Owens seems to be tied up with Jericho, so what else would there be on RAW?

There is also that Bullet Club past, AJ pointing out he did what Balor couldn't and more after he left. There is a potential story already there.

Reigns vs Cena.
No sarcasm.

As far as in-ring ability, I think AJ Styles would have to be involved. As far as build-up, this would have been a great time to blow-off something long term like Zayn/Owens if they had saved it or the Shield three-way dance.
I know this isn't a new observation, but I love that Omega never hit his finish in the Wrestle Kingdom match. I can't picture a WWE match going that long without each guy hitting his finish at least twice (unless the talent went rogue and blew off the agent's instructions).

Reigns vs Cena. No sarcasm. I call shenanigans, because you know perfectly well that a Mania crowd would shit all over that. Even if it were somehow incredible (and Reigns doesn't have that in him...not yet), it wouldn't get a fair shake from the get-go.

I think we can all agree that one of the participants in this match would have to be AJ Styles.

Reigns vs Cena. No sarcasm. I agree to a certain extent. With the right build (which isn't possible between now and Mania) and both guys having a really good day in the ring, this could be a classic. If you threw it together with a face vs. face or Superman vs. Superman build, it would be treated as Goldberg/Lesnar from WM20. My biggest hesitation is that I think of my favorite singles matches featuring Reigns or Cena and they all feature a guy like Styles, Punk or HBK shouldering the load. So I guess I'm saying that I don't think they could put together a "six star match" or whatever, but I certainly think they could have a hell of a throwdown.

Plus as Jim mentioned there's no way Reigns/Cena would be given a chance at Mania. They would shit on it as soon as they announced that match was starting. I wouldn't doubt it'd be decent in the ring but no where near Omega/Okada level.

HBK vs. AJ Assuming Shawn could get back to at least 90% the ring shape he was in before retirement.

This probably won't count because they won't let him wrestle, but since he's on the roster and could wrestle if they just let him I'd go with Daniel Bryan vs Brock Lesnar.
Barring that, I would go with any combination of either AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Austin Aries, Finn Balor, or Samoa Joe, as these are the best workers in the company right now IMO, and pairing any of them up for WrestleMania would be brilliant.

How many great matches does this guy have to do week in and week out and sometimes with inferior big men does he have to do until people realize he is a mainevent talent who could work with anybody? If his matches were in new Japan, everybody would be riding him like he's the second coming.

He's very good. But he's not in the upper echelon of in-ring performers. No sir.
