Stop embarrassing yourself. Embarrassing himself seems to be embedded in his DNA. Then again, he was right about the Election and I was wrong. Oh, wait... I had elected (pardon the pun) to remove myself from this thread after my initial post when it became more about the actual politics of it rather than the rather tenuous link to wrestling. Then I saw your profile pic, which to me just sums up the whole fallacy behind Trump's campaign, especially given it has that completely self-centered opportunistic tool Farage in it. How on earth the average American fed up with the status quo could have decided that voting for a (self-professed) billionaire who epitimises the very elite he claims to be fighting against is in their best interests is beyond me. The man is in a GOLDEN FUCKING ELEVATOR FFS. However I have been rather amused watching across the pond at how, rather similarly to how the knob he is standing with in said dick replacement immediately backtracked on key campaign promises after the Brexit vote, Trump is now one by one already doing the same. Be careful what you wish for, if it isn't reniged it might just come true...

It's his business: real estate management and development. While he doesn't do the dirty work himself, he regularly interacts with plumbers, electricians, carpenters, air-conditioning and refrigeration people, construction workers and many more. I understand that the probability of your accepting this explanation is near zero, but it's the truth. I happen to like Canadians. They are, by and large, very nice people but incredibly naïve. You don't even realize how much you've been indoctrinated into a socialist mindset. That's why you can't understand the results of the Election.

For the record I am not Canadian, I am a Scotsman living in England (hence 'across the pond'). And I do understand that reasoning to an extent. But you yourself have suggested why I can't fully do so - he doesn't do the dirty work himself. He is ultimately working for his own self-interest as a businessman and is willing to give off the impression that he understands the plight of the common man when it suits him, but would more than likely go against their interests if it were good for business. All that has happened is that he is being given the opportunity to do exactly the same on the political stage.

Another theory gaining popularity is that Bernie Sanders would've beaten Trump. The truth is that Bernie Sanders campaigned very hard for a leftist candidate in New York, Zephyr Teachout, and she still lost big even though the polls had her ahead. But you all knew that, didn't you?
So, how was Bernie gonna win the General Election when he couldn't even get a like minded candidate into the Winner's Circle in very blue NY?

Why do you hold Trump to a greater standard than to what you hold yourself?

He is in charge of what is perceived as the free world and all that comes with it. Any wrong move he makes affects the globe. Therefore he should be held to greater account. I'd also like to think I would think twice before saying/doing anything that affects a whole community, due to being a half-decent human being.

I'm not gonna go back and forth all day, but you seem like decent sort so I'll give you an answer. The media depiction of Trump is bullshit. I've lived a mile from Trump Tower for the past 25 years and know people who have worked for him and with him, and I've heard none of the horror stories that the media has conjured up. Meanwhile, I have people from other parts of the country and Canada telling me he's a madman. So, excuse me for being skeptical. You know, it is possible you've been had.

I am not going by media stories regarding people he has worked with, I am going by the rhetoric he himself has been spouting during his campaign as well as historically. The man has proven himself through his own words to be at the very least opportunistic, treating the truth as an inconvenience when it doesn't suit him, a bully to those who don't agree with him and willing to scapegoat entire minority groups for his own ends. I agree that there may be an element of bias in the way it is reported, but you cannot dispute he has not helped his image through his own documented words and actions. I also find it telling that the only policy he mentioned in his victory speech was regarding rebuilding infrastructure, likely because this is probably the only one he actually has some subject knowledge about, given his construction background, and given it is fairly partisan is probably the most likely to succeed unscathed. Don't get me wrong, I am hopeful that I am wrong about the man. I remain needing to be convinced though.

If Trump turns to him for advice I feel he will do quite well.

Trump is basically the Daniel Bryan of American politics. The Ultimate Underdog Story. Poll after poll on election day had his opponent at a >95% chance of winning, with most feeling it would be over before the west coast polls even closed. Always believe. Never Give Up.
