Hey guys,
Backlash is my favorite PPV outside of the Big Four so I'm glad we've had a chance to do two of them, even though 2003 and 2006 were admittedly sub-par shows.
Backlash 2006 will be forever etched in my mind as the show where Vince and Shane took on HBK and the Supreme Being Himself....GOD.
I'm not religious in the slightest so this story didn't offend in that regard....it offended me because it was, in a historical perspective, the Moon Landing of cheap heat.
From a storyline perspective attacking Shawn's beliefs and integrity would have been more than enough, they instead decided to go the insane route and literally team up the Heartbreak Kid with his Lord and Savior, even going as far as to give Him His own entrance.
In Vince's mind it made perfect sense I'm sure. Who doesn't love GOD, right?
It was such a transparent ploy to garner the 'outrage' factor that it just made it impossible to sit back and watch this match (or the rest of the PPV in fact) objectively.
They might as well have teamed up Michaels with a dozen adorable puppies. Who doesn't love puppies, right? Vince is evil, it makes sense.
Average show otherwise, Cena/Edge/HHH was a decent match and Carlito/Chris Masters was fun because of Masters blowing the near fall spot and because, after Carlito's victory, they threw to Maria backstage who states that we fans might not be happy about Masters winning over Carlito....did she not just watch what happened or was this part of her being portrayed as a ditz?
Anyway, keep up the good work guys. I'm sure that after sitting through so many of these shows there must be some battle fatigue...the Review-A-Wai Universe thanks you.
