I enjoyed the Shane Douglas interview and am looking forward to the extended version (if there is one) being uploaded in the next couple of days.
First let me say that I agree that the ECW era is over and needs to be put to rest. And I say that as someone who was a hardcore ECW fan. The brand has been drug through the mud enough and rehashing it and attempting to revive the brand will do nothing but damage the legacy of ECW further.
However, I do believe that Douglas made a couple of valid points. The wrestling business really is in the same kind of a slump that is was in back in 1992. And I believe that the industry is ripe for a strong alternative to the shit, to the garbage that comes through our television screen on a weekly basis!
I've got nothing but respect for ROH, Dragongate, and the other indy promotions that are tearing shit up and working hard to provide a solid product. But those companies just dont seem to have the horsepower to compete with TNA or WWE on a national or international level at this point.
I do hold out hope that a company like ROH will be able to rise up and be a strong competitor to the big two. And I am holding out hope that alot of the talent out there that are being held back in the big two will have an alternative stage in which they can shine upon like they deserve to!...
But a revived ECW is NOT the answer!... We need a new revolution!...

I agree that ECW is dead & gone, and Douglas is a self-promoter...But I can think of worse things than a promotion booked by one of the more overlooked minds in the sport.
I hope it can actually gain some traction and end up being something like Wrestling Society X (only with longevity), the business needs all the buzz/competition it can get right now.

Any valid point(s) Douglas made about an industry stump was completely negated once he started rambling about how Vince and Dixie do the same old shit and then promoting the Extreme Reunion (that he claims isn't really a reunion, despite the title) in the same breath.
It's one thing to try and play the role of promoter and it's another to effectively promote your product. He completely failed at putting over his show and just looked like a buffoon.

Always felt Douglas was too happy to blame others for his failure to make it beyond the level of ECW. That said, he's right that wrestling needs a new direction - I just dont think its extreme.
Personally, I'd like a promotion which aped the real world vibe of a ufc while giving us exciting in-ring action. Threat it like a sport, have managers back, running camps of various wrestlers, make the titles the most important thing in the overall story, while building rivalries around it. Cut down on the comedy (although dont cut it out completely) and aim the show at the 15-30 market - nothing against kids but you are not going to beat WWE at its own game.
And most importantly, and I cant stress this enough - NO AUTHORITY ANGLES!!!! EVER!!! Have a figure head who represents an impartial championship board for the sole purpose of giving the promotion a stable base. Heels aren't cheating if they're making the rules...

I agree and I hope that whatever promotion he launches is successful. I just don't want to see an ECW revival with guys like Douglas, Rhyno, Dreamer, Sandman, Mahoney, and the like being the focal point of the brand. I would like to see them launch a product that pushes young talent and has nothing to do with ECW what so ever. I'm so sick of the same old shit!

Shane Douglas trying to revive ECW is like Vince McMahon trying to do the same to 1987-era WWF. Once an era is dead, there is no way you can dig it out of the grave and expect the same allure to remain there. Reviving ECW is just sad and will subsequently hurt the legacy of ECW. After watching Hardcore Homecoming: November Reign, it was just a sad show to watch. The spark that once existed in the '90's is lost forever. I've followed ECW religiously from 1995 to 2001. Hell, I used to stay up late just to watch ECW Hardcore TV on MSG Network.
Anyone feel that Shane Douglas' revival of ECW is just sad to say the least?

Is it just me, or is Shane Douglas going through his midlife crisis right now?

I said this on the Live LAW show thread, John deserves a emmy or something for keeping a straight face during that interview I applaud him. Shane Douglas came of sounding like a lunatic. My favorite part was when he was making fun of dixie carter for not being with it in 2012 but this guy is rounding up some way past there prime guys from the mid 90's. Do they gave it out emmy's for radio interviews? If not John deserves something give the guy a raise.

Shane is fucking delusional.
"I got 20,000 fans to chant ECW when I 'invaded' RAW"
I heard one person chanting ECW, and he was the guy holding the camera.

These Extreme Reunions that Douglas does are all he can pretty much do in wrestling anymore. He's burned so many bridges with other companies and the people within them that he has nothing to go to anymore.
Also if he thinks that the "extreme" hardcore style wrestling is what all the fans are clamoring for, he is mistaken. If that were the case then CZW would be making money hand over fist.
I respect Douglas and think he is an underrated mind and talent in wrestling, but he has this one wrong.

He did come off as sounding just a tad bit delusional. Didn't he say that business was down in the industry? Did he hear how well WrestleMania did?

I applaud Pollock for keeping a straight face during the interview, If I had to listen to such crap and keep a straight face the only thing I could do is think of something sad...Mae Young...Nitro....Benoit....anything!

Shane Douglas in my mind was always the most overrated wrestler in ECW. Always skipped his matches.
