I've been a fan of Foley for ages, and I was really looking forward to him rejoining WWE. Sadly, they seem intent on dropping the ball with him, so, like any arm chair grappler, I began to think of ways they could revitalize Foley, and I think I came up with a winner.
Foley still has immense value, and it is a mistake to capitalize on him. The way I see it, a program with Foley, given the proper build, would help establish any number of guys who are right at the cusp as of this moment. The guy I have in mind is Dolph Ziggler.
Foley comes out the RAW after Extreme Rules to promote his upcoming book and do a few cheesy segments. He is in mid shill, when Ziggler interrupts and challenges him to a match. Foley declines because of his health, and tells Ziggler that he "Isn't that person anymore." Ziggler insults him and slaps him, and Foley walks away.
This can go on for a few weeks with Ziggler mocking Foley, beating opponents using Foley's double armed DDT (which he claims he perfected), and claiming Foley fears him. Then, at Over the Limit, Foley comes out to do commentary on a match, or do something else less than important, and downplays the whole thing. In between matches, Dolph comes down, and in front of Foley's family, beats him down; including, some very planned and safe, head shots. Foley does a stretcher job, and is gone from TV for months.
In the meantime, Dolph is bragging about his actions, before being informed that the Foley family is considering legal action, and Johnny Ace wants him to apologize to Dewey and Noelle Foley at Money in the Bank. At MITB, Dolph feigns an apology before ripping apart Mick and the entire family- which causes Dewey to attack him. Dolph, of course, easily repels this attack, handcuffs Dewey to the top rope, and brings out a Singapore cane to beat Dewey with as Noelle cries.
The following night, Dolph, sporting a brand new "Cane Dewey 2012" shirt, is once again bragging about how he ended Mick and gave that punk Dewey what he's needed for years. WWE begins airing weekly interviews conducted by JR where Mick explains that he is going to return at Summerslam and that Ziggler has no idea what he's done.
Fast forward to SS, Dolph is standing in the middle of the ring, daring Mick Foley to come out, and instead a midget or a guy in a fat suit comes out, Ziggler mocks him and pins him before heading up the ramp. Just as the fans think the segment is over, Foley runs out and beats the Hell out of Ziggler. A huge backstage brawl ensues where Ziggler just can't seem to shake the enraged Foley. Finally, security manages to get between them and Ziggler leaves the arena while Mick goes to the ring and cuts a promo.
Ziggler begins to duck Mick after this over the weeks, and at Night of Champions, until Mick announces that at Hell in a Cell there will be no more running away. Ziggler goes over Mick clean at Hell in a Cell, wins the Rumble, and heads to 'Mania in the main event.
I think this would really help Ziggler's career and would sure be a helluva lot better for Foley than the stupid garbage he's been doing since his return.
