Did anyone used to read the Apter Mags (Pro Wrestling Illustrated, The Wrestler, Inside Wrestling)? I used to read them in the late '80s & early '90s. The only wrestling I could see on TV back then was the WWF (and then NWA/WCW starting in the early '90s) so they were pretty much my only exposure to rest of the world of wrestling. My next door neighbor gave me a box of them when he moved in about 1988 or '89. I only actually bought them a couple of times, but I'd always leaf through them at the store, especially for the Top 10. I actually had an arena report from a WWF house show printed once too.

Yeah, I used to read them all the time as a kid.
PWI magazine was how I first learned of things like ECW (which I didn't see until it was on TNN), Smokey Mountain Wrestling, and I think they even reported on the Arn/Sid/scissors incident because I somehow knew about it years before I had the internet.

I was never a regular reader, but I use to buy the PWI 500 every year. As a kid all we had access to was WWF tv. The PWI 500 got me into other wrestling organizations.

Loved the Apter mags, when i was younger it was my first intro to Ric Flair, Lex Lugar,Nikita Koloff, ect. We only got WWF on Saturday morning so lots of new faces that i never got to see on tv. Still got a ton of them from back in the day and had a opportunity to meet Bill Apter in Miami this year and he was a true gentleman

In the late 80's and through the nineties it was the only source of wrestling info available(other than dirtsheets). And living in Australia, the issues were often 3 months behind.

For the longest time I would buy PWI for over 20 years till I moved in to my house which that was the only way I knew about other promotions. The only ones I have kept are the special issues. I only buy PWI for the PWI 500, Mid Yr Reprt and Year End Issue now

i mainly read (looked at the pictures) PWI. i loved the section where they had the top 10 rankings of all the different territories. and the year-end issue with all the dumb fan-made awards and lists.

I still have most of my PWI's, and all of the PWI 500's, even though they were kayfabe, I felt like they made me much "Smarter" as a fan because I knew of all these guys who werent in the WWF.
