I'm not sure that you can blame the lack of TV ratings and PPV buys on CM Punk. You should probably look at the WWE product as a whole. I think the main problem is there isn't a good traditional pro wrestling booker in control.

Ratings did not go up very much with Rock around, and I have yet to see a huge rating bump for Lesnar. The landscape has changed, ratings arnt the be all/end all anymore.
Punk is however, the first person to outsell Cena in merch sales in years......

It also got cut short. They changed the character. That shoot angle could have gone on for months, but they cut it short to have a match at Summer Slam. Then they totally screwed up HHH/Punk, which I thought actually made for really compelling television for a few weeks. That whole thing failed when Nash revealed that he sent the text to "make wrestling cool again." Uh...
But I don't think it failed. I just think it was cut short.

It was not a failure. Too many cooks in the kitchen was the reason it failed. It had potential if it were left up to Punk.

880,000 people tuning out when him and Miz wrestled was one of the craziest things I have seen in a long time.

I think hes very overrated and the thing annoys me about Punk is that he thinks hes better than he is and is quite arrogant. Hes probably better as a heel than babyface, i think his work in the ring is okay and his babyface promos aren't that great.

Well, he sold a lot of t-shirts. In regards to the ratings, nobody has been helping. In fact, an argument can be made that John Cena has been poison to WWE, simply because ratings have steadily gone down since he became the golden goose of the company. But he is still a big cash cow.

It was not a failure. It was a success in making a star. They just didn't follow up and use the star to make money. They watered him down and now business slowed before money could be made. You don't seem to understand how this business works. maybe you should work for WWE creative.

Failure? Nope, they've created a new "top guy".
Disappointment? Undoubtedly - they've watered his character down immensely to make him a corporate figurehead when what got him over in the first place was his non-cooperate stance.
He does make a much better heel though (The SES), or even a tweener (last years MITB angle).
Oh, and Gianna Micheals as an avatar = WIN!

I dont think you can call it a failure I mean they have created a new top star and sold a ton in merch and also in personal opinion wwe tv is a 100 times better now then it was 2 or 3 years ago

I think that CM Punk as a heel character who defies authority and breaks some of the rules is much more effective and would have drawn better. Kind of like how Stone Cold was, an asshole who the fans loved. Punk was on that same path but it took a strange turn when he took up sides with HHH and Cena, WWE and VKM kicking all of us "smart marks" dead in the balls. I'm afraid that they might make the same mistake with Daniel Bryan in the near future. Just because we cheer the heel doesn't mean we want him as a "good guy."

The only issue I've ever had with Punk is that he can do no wrong with the internet smarks. Back when he was feuding with Jeff Hardy, he was cutting some great promos about being Straight Edge. However, after a few weeks, it felt like he was saying the same shit week after week and the IWC thought it was the greatest shit ever.
Fast forward a few years later the same people are whining that The Rock does the same week after week. Uh sure, whatever you say guys.
