I've been on a bit of a Cornette kick lately as Kayfabe Commentaries have released a new WCW timeline with him and while I find him very entertaining to listen to I find his opinions have become a little hard to take. I mean recently Jim compared Kota Ibushi & Kenny Omega to Hitler! There's part of me that thinks he might be aiming for some attention but the rest of me thinks it's just his actual opinion. What are other peoples opinion on the man and his views on wrestling?

He's Batman to Russo's Joker. You know the Joker is insane but you also know that Batman isn't that far behind.

Don't have to listen to him ya know....it's hilarious how people are hooting and a hollering when he buries shit they don't like....then immediately start crying wtf when he buries something they do.
People have differing opinions....that's life....deal with it.
His politics I agree with vehemently...his rose colored glasses about the territory days I don't.

I could listen to Jim Cornette talk forever about pre 1996 wrestling. One of the great wrestling historians.
But once he starts going on about politics or current day wrestling, I tune out.

That was the thing I was getting at. I enjoy listening to him on those Timeline shoots because he's talking about the past and times when he was a key part of what was going on but he then shoe horns his views of today into it. I also enjoy watching the wrestlers responses on Twitter when he creates a rant.

Disclaimer: I'm only talking about wrestling here... even though I usually agree with Cornette politically, he is a reminder of why people can't talk politics civilly in the US anymore. This is why I listen to the Drive-Thru, which is mostly old wrestling talk, and gave up on listening to the Experience. Anyway...
Everything Jim Cornette says into a microphone can pretty much be broken up into two parts.
His opinion: Usually valid and thoughtful, and based on years of experience. It's a shame that he still has so much to give the wrestling business but has essentially made himself unemployable by any company that could afford him.
His opinion of his opinion: I'm always right and if you disagree then not only are you wrong, but you don't deserve to live. Thank you, fuck you, bye.

I started listening to his podcast, and I believe his very first episode (might have been his second) he did a legit 10+ minute rant on gun control.
Haven't listened to a single episode since. (which admittedly is part me being tapped out on wrestling podcasts. I listen to enough already. Any new podcasts I start listening to need to be non wrestling ones)

I understand where he's coming from when he criticizes high flying wrestling comparing it to a ballet or a gymnastic display. Cornette thinks that wrestling should be portraying realistic fights. That's his opinion.
Sometimes he's just trying to attract attention like a heel character.

Cornette isn't playing a character...he believes what he says.

The argument about the Omega vs little girl is stupid beyond stupid, though.

His base argument is fine, that it can make wrestling look silly. However how he delivers that argument actually hurts him because he goes too far.

The part I always laugh at, is the people who take great umbrage to him hating video game wrestlers and hokey shit is they are all goosing and a giggling whenever he goes "fuck Vince Russo" and "Bucky fucking Beaver"....he deals in hyperbole and vitriol...it's who he is.

The argument about the Omega vs little girl is stupid beyond stupid, though. I went and googled this match/commentary from Jim Cornette,I was curious, and the match was certainly not 5 or 6 stars, but it also wasn't teh drizzling shits. Omega wrestled a broom at some point as well if I am not mistaken. Omega is a "new style" of wrestler and Jimmy is still stuck in the territory days, Ultimate Warrior he didn't like or did like but thinks he was pushed wrong, whichever it is, while I respect Cornette for his years int he business, even Vinnie Mac is wrong sometimes. Frankly I thought the match was what it was, a 9 year old doing some moves on an adult. It's a lot like karate, we teach kids "Learn these moves to defend yourself." they go to school and BAMM get their asses kicked by a kid who doesn't follow "normal" fighting. Its all the same, it was fun to watch but was it serious wrestling? No, itwas comedic wrestling at its better.
