Would be surprised if this is a work, but we've been fooled before.
If it's real then I feel really sorry for the guy but glad he's made this decision if it's best for him.

Supposedly, the WWE at one time wanted him to be an announcer. Maybe that might happen now.

Angle Alert.
We know DB has been cleared by doctors who don't work for WWE. Maybe tonight he announces retirement and Steph comes out with her fake sympathy. Then by slip-of-tongue says how the authority are making it so DB cant return. Bryan goes what do you mean? and they turn it to a story.
Or he's "retiring" to get out of his contract. Either way he hasn't wrestled his last match.

Without the medical records it's really hard to comment on this.
If it was any other injury then it would be much clearer, but with head injuries it's more difficult. Normally you can tell if you're feeling ok but when we think of head trauma in wrestling I think most of us immediately think back to Chris Benoit, who surely suffered emotionally, which is one of many symptoms for brain trauma. But yeah, without the medical records it's hard to say. I can only go on what I've heard Bryan himself say, which is that he feels fine. But the WWE doctor must have seen some swelling in his brain or something that alarms him.
In short, concussions are a hard thing to diagnose, and an even harder thing to medically clear, because we just don't know enough about them yet. Not really.
I suspect that this isn't a work, but that it's just a retirement from the WWE. I suspect that if Bryan truly feels healthy that he'll wrestle again someday, and it's hard to say that he shouldn't if he does indeed feel fine. But even if he wrestles again he should definitely change his style and be more careful. That would surely be a minimum requirement should he ever step back into the ring.
A sad day for Bryan because I know he would like to wrestle in the WWE again, but I can also understand WWE's position on this. I hope Bryan elaborates more tonight and that it's a shoot when he does. I would be particularly curious to know what symptoms the doctors say he has, or if they are just being overly cautious.

B+ Player... Too early? Ha ha.
Hope it's an angle.
Love me some Bryan vs. Brock.

Danielson has had at least 10 concussions. There is no way that WWE's doctor Joseph Maroon is ever going to give him the approval to get back into a WWE ring. With the existing concussion lawsuit against them not settled yet, the WWE would be idiotic to let somebody like that take bumps. Plus, the company is also scared that if they did let Danielson comeback & he is in bad condition years from now, someone in his family would sue the WWE and would likely win such a suit. WWE is so cautious about this situation that they did not even let him out of his contract so he could go wrestle somewhere else.

Depending on how it is played, could be like Mark Henry's retirement.

Did anyone notice during his entrance that the whole crowd was doing the YES! but there was no "yes" sound. Crowd volume was not equal to the visual ovation. Did anyone notice or do I just see the conspiracy in everything?
...and also fuck kevin dunn

You never reach main event status without retiring shortly after your run on top. Now he can live on in people's minds like Punk, Edge, Austin, Rock, Batista, HBK's first run, Brock's first run and well Eddie.

Real shame. Hell of a wrestler and will miss his matches. Really sad when you consider he's only in his mid-30's, he could have done so much more for the company.

Well, we didn't get a definite answer from Bryan regarding the medical reports. Just that there was 'something' that made him realize his brain isn't as healthy as he thought.
It was vague but fair enough. If there's evidence to suggest that his health is in jeapordy then the WWE are right to shut him down.
It felt like a part of Bryan died last night, but we should remember that he is very much alive and supposedly in relatively good health, and that's the most important thing.

Edge didn't even main event the show with his retirement.

Well, we didn't get a definite answer from Bryan regarding the medical reports. Just that there was 'something' that made him realize his brain isn't as healthy as he thought. Danielson was given the okay by doctors of the Arizona Cardinals and at UCLA after he passed their concussion tests. For his last exam in New York however, a different set of tests were used. If you look at the timeline, then you would likely conclude that the results of the last exam suggested that he retire. WWE had told Danielson long ago that they were never going to clear him. Up until the last exam in New York, he was still trying to convince the company to let him back into the ring. Obviously, he has now accepted their medical opinion.
