Love Lucha Underground. It is so different than every other wrestling product out there right now (CHIKARA would be the only one that is even somewhat close, and even then). A mix of great wrestling and it is in it's own universe where it's easy for me to suspend my disbelief. I accept that it's wacky.
Hope seasons get released on dvd.

This fucking Lucha Underground horse shit. That is the most heinous horse shit that I’ve ever seen in my life. We joked off the air and I said “well I’ll probably like the match, but I wont like the concept of the show because it has writers.” I didnt like nothing. This is more embarrassing than anything I could have dreamed of. Its a TV show. Its a movie. Its not wrestling. Its not a sport. They make no pretence of even attempting to make this shit believable. The production is incredible. It looks like Scorsese directed it. The cinematography is wonderful. It looks like a John Ford western, whatever the fuck. I cant say enough about the production. And its another nail in the coffin of wrestling to being taken seriously as a sport or anything that’s not completely predetermined. There’s nobody on the face of the planet that could watch this shit and believe that there is any legitimacy to it whatsoever. It shouldn't be called pro wrestling at all. Its a movie and they’re wrestling in the movie. That’s all it fucking is. That backstage horse shit that obviously takes multiple takes to shoot something like that. Nobodies believing these people. Its a scripted performance of a movie or a TV show. That’s all that shit is.
And then, good God. I watched Prince Puma and Felix. I know Lucha is obviously acrobatic. But this was a choreographed fucking Chinese acrobat Olympic gymnastics tumbling routine. That’s all that fucking was. And the three-way ladder match is more garbage horse shit hardcore wrestling where they’re beating each other up with furniture that doesn’t work with you and somebody is going to get killed. And just more of this ladder goofiness. And the recap of the year, where there’s Vampiro hitting people with light tubes and thumb tacks on the ground. And John Morrison, I like, he was a OVW guy. I like him as a person. I’m sorry to see him in that atmosphere instead of real wrestling.
The only way to save this god damn horse shit is if they get everyone in that fucking Temple who is associated with Lucha Underground and all the tapes of everything they’ve ever shot and put it in the same place and then drop a nuclear fucking bomb on the whole god damn thing. That would be the best way to treat Lucha Underground if you are a wrestling fan who has any pride in pro wrestling as a performer, as a professional or as a fan, because its more writers happy horse shit making wrestlers phony.

I also don't get the appeal of Lucha Underground, their reasoning for angles is goofier than a Cornette outfit.

It's too bad Ivelisse didn't win, but then I guess it would have been like Ambrose winning the Rumble. Would have been a nice pop in the moment, but wouldn't have made storyline sense in the big picture.
My only complaint was that I didn't understand how Mil and Catarina took over the Temple. I get that he's the champ but that needed to be explained better.
It was also jarring having the show start with Vampiro acting all serious and psychotic in a vignette, and then cut immediately to him acting goofy at ringside.
It was also a bit weird that the viewers learnt about the three-way before the announcers did. I actually like that, because what happens backstage or when cameras aren't supposed to be filming should be just like in a movie when you see a good character do something bad when nobody is around, to add that extra layer of depth to their future scenes. But I'd never seen it done with the announcers before. Usually they're the exception; like they are omnipresent and know everything that's going on in all angles.
But LU is definitely it's own universe in that regard and it seems people will either love it or hate it. Put me in the former camp.

That Jim Cornette sure has a way with words.

Cornette would have popped if Pentagon Jr. used a chloroform rag on Mil Muertes.

Lucha will never work unless there's a US title at stake.

Blew NXT out of the water. Agreed. It's not for everyone. I enjoy it, but it takes a very different mindset to watching it for what it is, as opposed to what you expect from traditional wrestling. This is nothing new, in that regard. Chikara and PWG are similar in some regards to challenging the traditional form in the modern era.

I hold all pro wrestling programming to the same standard, and the production values and backstage vignettes can't be denied, the rest of Lucha Underground reeks of Wrestling Society X.
High spots and murderous monsters and cartel leaders is silly as fuck.

Future of Lucha Underground is still uncertain. Last year, the promotion was broadcast on El Rey and Unimas. This year so far, only on El Rey. Rumored Univision deal never happened. Neither did any tv deals in Mexico come about. Final tapings for Season 2 are this weekend, so they are okay there. Anything beyond that? Who knows? Supposedly, LU is behind in some of its payments to their workers.
