With the network set to go international in the next 6 months I started to think about how it might fair over here in the UK and I cant see anything but failure.
The price of $9.99 is £6.50 and there is no way we will get it at that price, more like £9.99 ($15). Also in the UK we WONT get the PPVs as the WWE have signed a deal with Sky Sports so thats 50% more cost for a poorer version of the network. Now some would say the diehard fans would still buy it but most will already have the US version just who is going to buy this???
Nobody.

There is no certainty what the network will look like come next year. Because all the ppv's are included and there is a relatively low monthly fee, the breakeven point is roughly 1.4 million subscribers. There is a decent chance that the numbers do not add up economically. That is with the current mix, the company is not maximizing the value of its products. Next public reveal of the subscription numbers is due at the end of the month. With such a heavy push by the company, they are hoping for a decent increase from the 1st released figure of 667,000. If that does not happen, there could be major changes to the network.

I'm probably in the minority of UK WWE fans who hasn't got the network by working around the geoblock, personally, as easy as it probably is, I'm just too lazy to go ahead and do it but I would be interested in the network once it drops over here, mostly for the retro content and a few of of the documentary type shows like the Monday Night Wars.
As for the Sky deal, who knows what that means, all the PPVs are heading to Box Office and no longer are a select few being offered on Sky Sports for 'free' which I suppose screws them when the network is released but helps them keep some PPV revenue coming in.
I think even if you offered the network at £10 anyone interested would go for it, even if they didn't show the PPVs live and instead showed them on replay the next morning, I reckon you'd keep people somewhat happy, I know a lot watch live till 4am, I myself have done it several times this year, but I bet there's a lot more who watch it on the replay or DVR it.
I don't think WWE's main worry when launching this thing was the UK numbers, I reckon they thought more domestically would sign up and if they made an extra 500k from the UK that was icing on the cake.
If the UK number was going to save this company, the network would be getting released next week.

I'm the same as you Rob. Waiting for it to become available in Canada legally just for the ease of it instead of getting a geoblock.
UK has some hardcore wrestling fans. I'm sure a bunch of people over there will get the network.

I'm the same Rob. I could try to do the whole geoblock thing but I want to wait for it to come out in the UK legally. For me the live PPV's isn't the selling point it's the archive and original programs. I wouldn't say it'll fail over here, the UK has some of the most hardcore fans ever. We'll have to wait and see.

So in the UK the WWE ppvs are $25 each now; I could still see WWE network undercutting that. It did it for US PPV providers, so unless there's an exclusivity in SkySports deal I would think it's fair game.
And why do you think UK would pay a higher rate than what US consumers pay?

I remember reading somewhere that WWE has been planning for the Network for a little while when negotiating new contracts, so if that deal for the UK is relatively new, there's a possibility that they have something in there that will allow them to still launch the Network as is.
If they were planning on launching a stripped down version of the Network in other territories, I feel like they wouldn't be waiting so long to launch it, especially when they need big numbers to tell their investors.

If you can use Unblockus to get a cheaper version of the network that also offers PPVs then most will do that. You just need to look at the difference between the UK and USA librarys on Netflix.

Take Chromecast for example, $25 in the US when it launched, 6 months later it gets its UK launch and it costs £29.99($50). Right now Amazon US is selling PS4s for $340, Amazon UK is selling them for £335($450). TBH its a fucking joke but they dont call it 'rip off Britain' for nothing.

Meltzer says for the next subscriber number announcement on July 31:
Below 800,000 - is a disaster in that nothing will get people interested other than Wrestlemania and considering that not everybody subscribing is from the U.S..
825,000 - 900,000 - might be okay for the stock as most people probably will not consider services like this typically have 10-15% people who do not renew.
Under 915,000 - actually bad because of all the promos they have done like free trials and giving out store credit.
910,000 - 925,000 - network likely hit 1 million by year's end.

I'm betting WWE will charge something like $12.99/month in Canada.

I'd be willing to bet that when the Network is launched over here that the WWE will be surprised by how many people over here are already signed up.

I'm betting WWE will charge something like $12.99/month in Canada. Not only will it cost more, it will have less content but some differing Canadian only content
