Hey All,
I was wondering do you think in today's wrestling environment, the WWE could do what they once did in the past & pull in a huge audience on a special night?
I am referring to doing a major Wrestlemania main event rematch on a special broadcast (not a RAW or a Smackdown) like they did back in the late 80's with Hulk Hogan vs Andre The Giant's Wrestlemania 3 rematch on that very first LIVE Main Event Friday night tv special.
If the WWE were ever so bold to do it, or try it again.... and they were put the John Cena vs The Rock rematch on free tv as they did with Hogan vs Andre, would it draw as big as that match did back then?
Looking forward to your thoughts,
Brutus Branyan

No, it wouldn't work, for a multitude of reasons...one is, there's too much TV on at the moment, we're oversaturated, back then they didn't have a weekly episodic show (theirs was a jobber recap show!) or monthly PPVs! There wouldn't be anything in it for WWE to have Cena vs Rock on free TV either - if they did everyone'll be wise to their game that it'll just be a bullshit finish. It's like when they have WWE Champion vs World Champion on free Tv (with no build no less!!) nobody cares because we know they've bullshitted us so many times that it won't have a clean finish and nothing is actually settled.
Having a big SNME today - It's bragging rights only but would not bring in an extra cent, it doesn't matter if 30 million or 3 million watch RAW. (it's only when they renegotiate their deal with USA network, and hopefully more of that audience buy the PPVs)
It's a fun idea but WWE are too money-conscious to throw away such a rematch on free TV.

I remember them highlighting "Wrestlemania" remaches last year after WM, I think we had Punk vs Orton, Cena vs Miz, maybe one or two others at various times.
