I almost went into a tangent about context in the gimmick match thread, but I'm curious on how you all feel about this.
That is: How do you feel about watching matches or even shows, out of context?
As much as we complain about the product today, there's still something about contemporary shows that appeals to me. I don't know if it's the backstage news and gossip we get through the LAW and the likes or maybe even just the fact that it is current in itself.
I have even started watching PPVs and RAWs from the attitude era. I do enjoy it, but there's still a just a little piece missing. Obviously, a show full of smarky references (like that Aprill 00 Nitro) will get somewhat lost. Knowing some of the stuff that is going the happen also gives a natural negative effect.
Even a legendary match, like a Steamboat/Savage, is kinda hard watching, simply because you already know that it's supposed to be great. It's hard to get really emotionally invested, I guess.
This is all true for MMA too. Especially knowing the result. If I know something is not going to end the match in this perticular round, I easily get bored. Also those matches, where a few minutes in you get a good feeling about it being a 5 rounder, they happen to lose my interest a little too quick.

I find it difficult because I want to go enjoy past shows not knowing wins/losses...but I also want to be on top of the current product and know what's going on.
It's a balance, 9 times out of 10 I can pick up a DVD from 2010 and back and have no idea of what's going on but still understand the overall structure of things based on what I know now from current events.
