I know I watched this show live, but I can't recall a single thing about. Goldberg vs Rock was still no Goldberg vs Austin which we sadly will never get.

What a way for Goldberg to start his WWE run! Wait, what happened again? Two of the biggest names in wrestling during this time period and you have to struggle to remember what happened. All I remembered for the build was The Rock saying he quit on Raw and out comes Goldberg. All the rest was an unmemorable as the match. Pretty much summed up the Goldberg WWE run. I do remember being happy they didn't hot shot a Cena title run on this show. After Brock tried to break his face the month prior I was afraid Cena would take the belt so Brock can heal. Boring show, now time to forget about it once again.

The only thing i remember about this show is its great theme song Remedy by Cold oh yeah this is the feud of Cena vs. Brock where Cena started using the F-U now A-A finishing move due to Brock putting Cena on the shelf with the leg injury where Cena cut promos in a wheel chair where it really got his rapper character going other than that i don't remember anything from this 03 PPV. Rock vs. Goldberg good buildup but seeing the match on youtube MEH! BORING.

After WrestleMania XIX was one of the best PPVs of all time, this show is a major let down. It's got it's share of memorable moments, but there are too many matches that are booked and performed as if they were on television, especially on the Raw side. They leaned hard on the main-event being enough to sell the show, but they should have known Goldberg wasn't capable of a match good enough to save a mediocre night. This was less a fallout from WrestleMania than it was treading water and putting pieces in place for the next few events. 5/10

this match between goldberg and the rock really could have been something huge and unforgettable and even though I do remember it I can unstand why other people wouldnt. Keeping that in mind I still think it was goldbergs best match in the wwe as I dont think it was that bad and rock was pretty entertaining. 6/10

Coming off of Wrestlemania 19, fan's everywhere were bewildered with the PPV following it. While 19 was such a great show, Backlash 2003 was not. I remember Los Guerrero's vs Team Angle being good with the Main Event being a huge let down. Big Show vs Mysterio was everything you would expect it to be. The 6 man Tag seemed like a huge cluster to me, with Nash really looking out of place. I liked Brock vs Cena, maybe that's just me. In 2012, now that we're getting Brock/Cena the PPV after Mania it's interesting to watch. The build up to the PPV seemed better than the actual PPV, especially with the Main Event. Goldberg vs Rock, in all honesty if you were expecting anything better out of them, why? Rock had been doing Hollywood and Goldberg, was still green, even though he had been wrestling for 6 years. I rate it higher than a lot of people with a 6/10 because of the Brock/Cena.

sean o haire! loved his "im just telling you something you know already" gimmick. thought he would go a lot further. i thought being paired with piper actually harmed him.

Hey John and Wai
Greetings from an Englishman in China. I love listening to your podcasts out here but I haven't been able to leave feedback before thanks to the Great Firewall of China blocking Facebook, but with this new forum I can join in the fun.
I remember watching this PPV live. I was a huge fan of The Hollywood Rock heel character and his promo before the main event was my highlight of this show. His reaction to hearing the crowd chant his name was hilarious.
Other highlights included what looked like a heavy box falling on Stacy Keibler's head after her catfight with Torrie. It seems that was what led to the fantastic Scott Steiner vs. Test feud (yes I'm being sarcastic).
I remember Big Show murdering Rey Mysterio on the ringpost as he was strapped into the stretcher. This spot is memorable as it looked so brutal and I'd never seen it done before. The opening match between Los Guerreros and Team Angle was probably my favourite of the night. Eddie was really becoming a big star at the time, the crowd were loving him. Chavo less so.
Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena was interesting to watch from today's point of view but in no way a classic. Lot's of rest spots and brawling on the outside. However I'm looking forward to their match at Extreme Rules, and like you guys I hope it's a quick match.
The other matches did nothing for me really, however I am a fan of Jazz and her awesome theme music!
I give this PPV a 6/10, nothing too offensively bad.
On a side note, I travelled from China to Miami last month and attended WrestleMania 28. I think that might make me the person who travelled furthest to WrestleMania this year!
Love the show, keep it up guys.

Hey guys, my first review!
The opening video showed that the only match to care about was going to be Rock vs Goldberg. It was an ok video but I liked the WCW commentary in it. By the way, was it even possible for Goldberg to reach 172-0 ?
Both tag team title matches were good but I thought the RVD/Kane vs Dudleys match was more entertaining. The first one lacked some more high spots if you ask me and Eddie seemed to be the only one getting some kind of a reaction. And is it just me or did Tazz say “Turd” instead of “Kurt” when referring to Kurt Angle at one point?
Did they really have nobody else to push than Sean O’Haire at that time? I like the idea of Piper being a mentor of somebody but this was just an odd pairing. The match was kinda awkward too with some of the spots being unnecessary or just badly timed. Funny Stink Face spot though.
Did you see the cat running around in the women’s locker room? The whole Test/Torrie/Stacy stuff is really annoying but I guess they need this stuff on PPVs. And why would they cut away at the end of the next segment when Test and Stacy are finally face to face? And why do I care so much?
Jazz saying that “the bitch is black” made me laugh. And it’s always refreshing seeing Teddy Long (who doesn’t seem to age) as something else than a General Manager. Some good stuff by the women in this match and I totally forgot how much better their matches were in those days. Would love to see Teddy Long as a heel manager again.
The Big Show vs Rey Mysterio match was a lot of fun. This really shows that these two are great performers. Big Show knowing his strength and Mysterio working so well with a guy of that size. I hope this would last a little longer while I was watching it. And it’s totally crazy how strong Show is. The stretcher spot is insane.
It was interesting seeing Lesnar and Cena a few weeks before the 2012 match. I think it was a decent match and you could see that Cena was still a bit green. I can see these two putting on a better match this year.
I don’t know what everybody else thought but I felt that the 6 men tag lacked some structure. Everybody seemed to be all over the place and the finish happened too sudden. However, the action was good as you can expect it from performers like these. I was a little surprised that Kevin Nash got so little reaction. And without the beard Triple H looks like Vigo from the Ghostbusters movie.
The Rock’s promo delivers as usual. Loved him as the hollywood heel. I hate how they changed Goldberg’s entrance song. In WCW that was always a thing that gave you chills. I think people expected way too much from this match. It was clear that most of them were there to see this one. Without The Rock this would’ve been really boring.
Overall it can be said that this PPV had it very tough to deliver after that great Wrestlemania a month prior. There was no match that I would call great. My favorites were the Raw tag title match, Mysterio vs Show and even the women’s match. The rest was ok and nothing special at all. The crowd really hurt the quality of the show especially during the first half of the show. I think it’s fair to rate this show with 5 out of 10.
How about you guys review the Impact and Raw shows from when they went head to head for one night? I think that could be interesting. Keep up the great works. Greetings from Germany.

It's crazy for me to look at the talent level at this time on the roster compared to today. At the same time this PPV was somewhat underwhelming to me and looked better on paper. I was never a Goldberg fan and to me the Rock isn't the type of worker that can carry a match he needs at least a competent worker in there with him to avoid a snooze-fest.
The rest of the card was above average and I enjoyed it mainly because at least this card was filled with wrestlers you cared about, something that is sorely lacking in the current product. Also, this was back when it felt like there were still tons of different characters, today so many wrestlers in the WWE look almost exactly alike and have bland gimmicks and no charisma.
Give the show a 7 out of 10.

Even though John Cena is a complete gimp now, I was really liking his stuff back in 03, mainly his raps for Lesnar and then later in the year with Undertaker. The rapper thing doesn't age well, no. But I always took the whole thing as tongue in cheek anyway so I didn't mind it at the time. It's funny to think that Cena got his finisher through this feud by trying to get to Lesnar by copying his finisher (to an extent).
I was super, super excited when I heard Goldberg had signed with WWE. Not so much after this event though. The exact same is probably gonna happen with Lesnar this year.
Pretty average PPV, 5/10.

Backlash....fantastic.
Someone mentioned that Wrestlemania XIX marked the end of the Attitude Era, if that was the death then surely this show was the period of mourning afterward.
The show was just a mess. This was the period of time where you had separate brands but shared PPV's which, to me at least, made the card seem completely scattershot.
This was also the period where there were no secondary titles. The Intercontinental championship had been unified with Triple H's World Heavyweight Championship and the United States championship was still a few months away from be resurrected.
While you don't want an oversaturation of belts as to make them meaningless you still need a second tier title for the midcard, otherwise you gets shows like Backlash all the time and nobody wants that.
I remember watching this and seeing a huge disconnect between the Smackdown and Raw main events.
On the Smackdown side we see Brock Lesnar and Cena which I found completely tolerable.
Cena was completely overmatched here and Brock no-sold for most of it but what I found refreshing was that Cena was there at all.
With Cena winning the tournament leading up to Backlash (as screwy a victory as it was) with the likes of Eddie, Big Show, Rey, Benoit and the Undertaker it showed us that they were willing to take chances and showcase new talent in the title picture. And as green as Cena was I found it to be far more entertaining than anything Raw had to offer.
On the Raw side of things we have Triple H teaming with Flair and Jericho taking on HBK, Booker T and Kevin Nash as the Kliq EXPLODES! Again.
And Rock/Goldberg was fantastic but for the wrong reasons. The Rock made this event a lot of fun to watch...but he's the heel. His pre-match interview with Terri Runnels was great, so good that you heard the crowd begin a Rocky chant, which he acknowledges and rewards with even more over the top behavior.
The problem with the Rock is that he was so good and so entertaining as a heel it would take someone as charismatic as an Austin or a Hogan to counter that. Goldberg was completely out of his league as a face and it made it impossible to get behind him.
This show wasn't terrible, but it wasn't good. It was a complete throw away PPV but it showed us that while it was still business as usual over at Raw, Smackdown was rife with potential. This was further evidenced when, a few months later, the PPV's became brand exclusive and Raw's first outing gave us Bad Blood and Smackdown gave us Vengeance.
Thanks for the great reviews guys, when you review great stuff I want to say 'GREAT JOB!' when you review terrible stuff I cringe like you're taking a brutal, unprotected chair shot. 'December to Dismember? Christ, that hurts...'
