First, enjoy the game quite a bit. My fear when I bought it was that I wouldn't like it as much as I did 12 as I was firmly a WCW guy during the attitude era. Glad to see it does the current day WWE well too.
My question:
With the move pack coming as DLC in January, it's clear that the team draws it's inspiration not just from WWE but from a lot of indy companies as well. With stuff being included like Chuck Taylor's Omega Driver, Roderick Strong's Half Nelson Backbreaker and even Prince Devitt's Bloody Sunday it seems like you guys have to watch a lot of wrestling to pick new stuff up. I've heard you say before there's a lot of wrestling fans on the team. Is it even possible for you guys to watch wrestling for fun anymore, or does every wrestling show you guys watch end up being looking for stuff you can put in the game?

Gonna have to be the Debbie Downer here, but after renting this I can't say I enjoyed it. The controls are sluggish, the animations and camera are incredibly difficult to follow and the attitude era mode, while fun, seems like a ploy to sell the game to people that may have fallen out of favour with WWE over the last few years.
The only advantage of this game is that the Attitude Era roster means that my copy of No Mercy is relevant again. I know I'm gonna sound like a gaming snob by dropping No Mercy in here, but I really enjoyed "Here Comes The Pain" back in the day but none of the Smackdown's/Raw Vs Smackdown/WWE games have even come close. Like the TV product, lack of competition has led to stagnation.

Hey John, please explain to me: Which was more difficult a task to deal with. Interviewing Rory MacDonald and trying to be friendly with him, or trying to get through some of the post Attitude Era challenges? I swear to god, Road Dogg vs. Chris Jericho took me a thousand tries.
Overall though, I liked the game, and the Attitude Era mode is a friendly welcome, although I really hoped they would go until WrestleMania 17 instead of stopping at 15. I like the game, but like every wrestling game, the novelty wears off, and it also presents glitches of its own.
That being said, I enjoy the game time to time, and give it 8 Pacquaio/Marquez KO's out of 10.

I got WWE 13 on release day and really got stuck into the Attitude Era mode. It was great being able to play out them matches and angles in the game it is reminiscent of WWF No Mercy for the N64. Props to THQ for the ammount of classic wrestlers they put into the game this year its great being able to use the likes of Ken Shamrock, The NAO, Classic Kane, The McMahons and the rest o the attitude based roster. While I have been playing the Universe Mode I still think it needs a little more work in the future. It was great having a Stat system introduced this year but it would be nice in the future to have a system to make feuds that doesn't rely on the Ally/Enemy system. As for gameplay I really enjoy the chain wrestling aspect into the game this year and the abilty to reverse pinfalls and trade roll ups back and forth.
Question For Bryan. With the success of the Attitude Era concept will we see other historical modes in future games. It would be great to see 1999 through to Wrestlemania X7 covered in WWE 14 or even a mode focused on the glory years of the WWF in the 80s.

Fairus from Malaysia.
Just a question for Bryan, is there any possibilities for future releases that have a more arcade feel to it such as the Smackdown games (Know Your Role, Just Bring It) or WWE All Stars ?

I haven't really played any wrestling games (or many other video games for that matter) since I was obsessed with Wrestlemania 2000 for N64 at the age of 14. My old roommate got some WWE game in '07, but I didn't really like it. I would just let him beat all the computer opponents and then attack him from behind and win.
I recently bought a few games to pass the time after my girlfriend moved away and thanks to WWE '13, I hardly miss her at all! I think it's a great game. I figured I'd have a hard time mastering the game-play as I've been away from the video game scene for so long, but I've found the controls rather intuitive and easy to remember.
The Attitude Era is the best part of the game and going through that has inspired me to listen to your guys' reviews of attitude era shows in chronological order (thanks to Gonzo for sorting that out). I must say, as you guys have posited on previous podcasts, it is quite odd to hear you talking about coffee in 2009 and then her a discussion about recycling in 2012 right after.
Anyway, WWE '13 is great, but not as great as Review-A-Wai. We are all indebted to John and Wai for their great work. Peace.

The last few years I've attempted to make 2 customer finishers: the double underhook piledriver/jay driller and the owen hart piledriver. The pre-set movements in creata-a-finisher don't allow for either of these to be made accurately. Are there certain movements/positions you guys intentionally leave out of the game for a given reason or was this just an oversight during development?
In games going forward will it be possible to edit things like superstar's hair, facial hair, and style of tights?
Thanks

I enjoyed WWE 13 a lot, it was a drastic improvement over WWE 12, which itself was considerably better than SvR 11. Attitude mode was a lot of fun, taking the best parts of Road To WrestleMania and Legends Of WrestleMania gameplay. The Legends game was great nostalgia, but felt like a chore to get through at times. Using the action checklist as an optional extra for a storyline mode was a great way to keep things flowing, but also add replay value.
My question is regarding Universe mode. Every year we're told that Universe is a replacement for the old career mode and that you can play out a career of one or more superstars with randomly generated storylines. This year we were even promised 200 storylines written by Paul Heyman. Maybe I'm not playing it right, but I rarely get more than a quick pre-match attack or ref bump. This game is worth buying for Attitude mode and the customisation features, but Universe as a game mode feels lacking. Is there any chance of reverting back to career mode as it used to be, pre-Universe/Road To WrestleMania?

Hey guys, just wanted to say that I think WWE '13 is a fantastic game. I'd say 9/10 and by far the best wrestling game I've ever played (even including the revolutionary TNA game! Kidding of course) The Attitude Era Mode is fantastic, and I love the situations they put you in. I loved that feature in the NBA2K games, and I'm wondering if that's where they got their inspiration from.
My question is more relating to DLC. Other than the pack coming out in January is there any other DLC planned? I for one would love to see arenas, maybe some downloadable story packs for current feuds, and newer superstars such as the Shield. Along with that maybe updated character models such as 3MB. The big one I'm hoping for is maybe an Attitude Era expansion pack, where maybe it can carry all the way to Wrestlemania X-7. I'd be willing to drop decent money for that as I'm sure most people would.

I have not had a chance to play WWE 13 yet, but I did have a couple of questions for your guest.
Why do the Wii versions of the last several WWE games not have downloadable content and will this not be the case whenever the next game gets released for the Wii U?
I was just wondering if you wanted to could you add people like Bruno Sammartino and other who do not have a good relationship with WWE (via signing a release with said performer like Jakks did with their Legends figures) or would WWE say no? Also has there been a thought about doing another Legends game?
Thanks in advance and I can't wait to hear the show. Keep up the good work....

This is the first wrestling game I've played in 5 years or so and, despite some glitches and sometimes frustratingly stupid AI, it's actually pretty fun. The controls are a lot less complicated than the last one I played and the wrestlers finally move naturally, which is a welcome change after years of them walking like they had a stick up their asses.
The Attitude Era mode is a lot of fun and a trip back to when I was eight years old and could only follow WWF though the kid-friendly Saturday afternoon shows. This was my peak time of markdom and I believed every little bit of it was real.
Despite my memory of him not getting obscenely jacked until 2002, Attitude-era Triple H is the undisputed Scott Putski winner of WWE 13. I let out an audible "Holy shit!" when he came out.
I've barely gotten into the WWE Universe or the creation modes, but the amount of customization in this game is incredible. I've only used the create-a-wrestler so far but it's worth noting that the Ribera Steakhouse logo is in the game so John can finally get himself a jacket, even if its only in the game.
I enjoy this game, though it's far from perfect. I think No Mercy still stands as the best wrestling game ever as this one can be a little sluggish and glitchy. But I think this series has a ton of potential with some tweaks. 7.5/10

Chris G. from China (NOT OTTAWA!) The next review a wai is on WWE 13? Awesome... game review, about time! I only have one request... that you appropriately end the episode of RAW with a video game song... May I request ending with Escape From the City from Sonic Generations? Here are my reasons as to why: 1. A popular video game track. 2. Sonic Generations is much like WWE 13 in some regards, in that its about comparing the old/classic with the new/modern of their respective franchises 3. It's a very recent (remake) song from a very recent game. Newest main game in the franchise. 3. It actually sounds like a really good song. Have a listen and see for yourself: www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4jR_gQioA8

Haven't played the game yet but i will be in the New Year and i'm very much looking forward to it considering all the hype.
This is not a question but a thanks; the WWE games might not get the best critical reception at times (especially from long time fans) but at least you guys don't stoop as low as WCW did by adding in the actual fucking games developers as secret characters to unlock.

Good wrestling game, love the attitude mode and matches against your friends are epic.
Was a massive fan of the n64 games and the early smackdown titles and this game has certainly come a long way since those.
On the negative side I have found many glitches in the game though, many times my wrestler has spazzed out and fell into the ring. Another criticism is the online modes. Far too difficult to find matches sometimes especially as I'm in Australia. Finally some of the player character models need work. Whilst ministry taker looks awesome others like booker t look shit.
Positives are the attitude era, offline multiplayer and the creation community is awesome. Zeus from no holds barred is a must download if your a fan of the movie.

I know I'm too late the show has already being done but I'd like to give my feedback anyway, I was initially impressed while playing the Attitude mode when I heard Stone Colds theme as it was when he first debuted it although basically the same as his current theme it had a more edgier more industrial feel to it they also had Undertakers class metal version of his theme + Mankinds theme plus a remixed version of his 1st theme which I forgot he had so I was expecting the same with the other characters but the same treatment wasn't given to Bret Hart who used the remixed version of his theme also the Acolytes used Mideon's theme not their own, The costumes weren't 100% accurate eg The New Age Outlaws costume Billy Gunn's was accurate to that time but Road Dogg is using his green & Black DX garb which he didn't start using till 2000 plus in HBKs match with Austin at Mania he's using the same tights he wore for the Montreal scew job , I played the Wii version of the game €34:99 which was a good deal cheaper than the Xbox360 & PS3 versions which were €54:99 , I actually hate using the Wii controller but I have a Nintendo Game-cube the controllers of which are compatible with the Wii. some of the glitches are whenever you put an opponent through a table you got from under the ring there's no sound effect which was a glitch in WWE12 too, glitches aside it's still addicting to play I'll give it a 7/10.
