Meh, I've never really liked The Undertaker. I know he's super popular, but when I first saw him, I thought "Hey, that's Mean Mark Callous!" and then I thought "This is stupid." In the '90s I used to get so angry whenever he'd do his supernatural shit. I thought it was so hokey and felt it was making pro wrestling look ridiculous (not that it was the only thing that was). I guess I just never got over it.

I guess I just never got over it. It also didn't help that he didn't have good matches until like 6 or 7 years into his run. The best you could hope for was average for long time there. |

I remember him best as the American Bad Ass so when he came back as the 'Dead Man' in '04 I figured, ok, this will last about a month or so.....but it's been almost a decade of the undead, wizard wrestler with powers. And it still works.
In an age of reality based entertainment and shoot videos and breaking kayfabe, he's still the Phenom and it still works.
He wasn't always going to have the best matches or the most solid ring work but those shortcomings were more than made up for with what else he could bring to the table.
As JR might put it, with Taker it's one of those rare situations where the sizzle is more significant than the steak.
