Chris and WH,
In addition to Kensuke Sasaki, if both or either of you guys were wrestlers and would like to share some pointers, or even just know about the business, I would appreciate some input.
As you may have read some of my threads, I've been playing with the idea of breaking into the business. Maybe a wrestler, maybe a ring crewman, and doing so in Japan.
I know the Japan crowd usually demands smash-mouth wrestling, more so than the American audience. Most of the puroresu marks I've met don't have anything flatter to say about American wrestling, namely World Wrestling Entertainment. Usually, they compare it to dog shit, or visualise William Regal kissing Vince McMahon's Ass.
Although not a native Japanese speaker myself, and have no current intentions to Japanese language classes, I still collect NJPW shows, and I ignore the commentary. However, I know by not knowing a word of Japanese, I have flagged myself as dead weight to any Japanese promotion and made myself a handicap. Then again, Chris Jericho didn't speak much of Japanese either, and he got by (he did an interview with, I think Jeff Marek(?), a former host in Live Audio Wrestling).
If you do have some advice, and the time to do it, please share the wealth with us on JAW! I'm sure that I'm not the only one who wants to know a good, not easy, way to break into the business.
Thank you for your time.

Question: Why is your audio so low and poor? Between the thick accents and the low mic and muffles, it's hard to listen to the podcasts. Don't get me wrong I would love to listen to the whole show but audio makes it unbearable especially listening on your phone in a car.

So Aj Styles joins NJPW and the Bullet Club and he is challenging Okada. Well that sure is interesting, didn't see it coming. Me personally I don't see him beating Okada but do you think he has a chance? How long do you think will AJ stick around? Also is Devitt really gone because they left it a bit ambiguous.

Dave in Australia Headbutts,Headdrops & Knees to the face... The graphic ways of hurting people in Japanese wrestling.
What are some of your favourite wrestling moves that are mainly used in puroresu? ie, ones that are rare in the U.S
While simple and unspectacular I'd go with Misawa's stepover facelock. It looks like it hurts and I'm surprised I haven't seen an American wrestler use it. Also strange is that it leads to a pin.

Don't get me wrong I would love to listen to the whole show but audio makes it unbearable especially listening on your phone in a car. There's Skype issues somewhere in there, but still it's something that baffles me, especially on WH's end since we should at least be of the same mediocre quality but we're all over the place. Humble promise is that we'll beef up our equipment... Next month, but not this one. Sorry. Bear in mind as well (though don't take it as an excuse) every other law type is a professional broadcaster/producer/audio head, and we're guys with cheap mics and Audacity. If you want to fund our little operation, of course..? As for the other questions, a veritable treasure trove! We'll root through all of them this week, hopefully.

Great show as usual.Enjoyed the Fire pro Music at the end. Sad to hear about masuda.
I actually like the ghetto audio quality. One of my favourite videogame podcasts at Keithcourage.com is just a guy walking around the streets with a recorder talking about videogames complete with background ambience. So cars and rain and people and even a cameo of the undertaker's theme on an episode around Halloween time. It adds to the charm. Anyway, Keep up the good work. Dave.

When you sneeze, do you tilt your head back and sneeze upwards into the air while pretending you're Great Muta doing the mist?

Watching this Ultimate Warrior special on the Network. They are showing his greatest matches. There is a match vs. Dibiase from Tokyo. In the Tokyo Dome. SO weird seeing Japanese fans react to the WWF product. Japanese fans are usually so reserved, sitting on their hands until later on in the match. But they are acting differently for this match. Interesting to see.
My question is are the fans that go to a WWE show the same fans that go to New Japan/Noah/All Japan shows?

I'm not Chris or WH, but most Japanese pro wrestling marks generally don't like WWE or anything from America, except maybe ECW. Those fans normally don't like the WWE product because it's degrading and it doesn't bring forth the preferred brand of wrestling. However, Dan Lovranski said that a friend of his told him that in Japan, there are more WWE fans than there are Jap wrestling fans. A perfect subject to debate on.

I don't think there's too much of a crossover. Its either you like puroresu and are loyal to that or you're a Wwe fan and only watch them. That said, there's likely some crossover. It's the same as us liking both Japanese and American wrestling. You also see Japanese wrestlers at wwe events when they tour over there so there's crossover with the wrestlers themselves at least.

I believe when the WWF toured in Yokohama in 2002, Mutoh provided commentary over there.

Sweet. I'd pay for a Japanese commentary track to a Wwe show. It'd be so much more exciting than what we get now. Even if you can't understand Japanese.
