One of my all time favourite because it was my very first vhs that i got while i was in london in 96. I must have watched it atleast 15 times and i liked jerry lawlers jokes during the hog pen match. Bret - bulldog match was great and better than the first IMO. And i was a huge ahmed johnson mark and was disgusted with jarretts antics But the only thing that confused me when i saw this event back then was who and what Goldust was about. My brother told me he was an alien and he wanted to abduct razor ramon properly to spare me from what really was going on with goldust. Oh well i miss the days where i believed in everything i saw on wrestling. Im giving this event a brown belt. What was the deal with "nature boy" buddy landell Happy holidays.

A lot of people look back at 93-96 WWF and give it a lot of crap, some of it is deserving, like some terrible gimmicks, but I for one enjoy those times, and I really enjoyed this PPV.
The main event was awesome, and I believe this was the match where Bret does a crazy blade job. I remember enjoying this match more than their 1992 Summerslam match. Bret was having good matches with everybody and this match with a motivated and fresh new Bulldog was no exception.
We knew what we were getting in a Diesel/Mabel match so I wont complain too much.
Diesel has become edgier since losing the WWF title the month before, and for the first time in a while he seemed fresh. Too bad we would only get this run of his character for a few months.
The Hog pen match was fun and I remember I always really enjoyed the Hunter-Godwinn matches during their feud.
The opening tag was also fun, as im a huge Sid fan, and Razor-Kid was a pretty good feud itself.
Overall a very fun card and good show, plus very easy to watch being only 2 hours. Keep up the good work guys

Paul Ellett:
This period was years before I actually got into WWF so I always welcome a show from 94-96 as an excuse to see a product I was never exposed to. There is often some dross from the New Generation era, but the likes of Bret, Shawn, Razor, 1-2-3 Kid and Owen seemed to pull out solid to excellent matches, often with less than stellar opponents, making a show worthwhile. Novelties like Vince overreacting to a snapmare 45 seconds in and Lawler putting in effort as a heel announcer are also enjoyable for newbies to this period, albeit to some extent.
I find this IYH format to be great; being just two hours, expectations aren't too high, and I can see it filling gaps in the calendar, while producing some PPV revenue. The closest I've seen in my time as a fan has been the Saturday Night's Main Events from 06 onwards, and both respectively can help build towards bigger shows, pre-Supershow era
Everything moved along quickly enough. Though not a classic show by any means, I can see it doing the trick if you were stuck indoors with family from out of town during the holidays. The main event and opening matches were entertaining, but the highlight was one of the most atrocious "brawls" I've seen featuring Ahmed Johnson and Jeff Jarrett, where at one point the guy on offence was somehow being chased by the other guy. Work that one out.
A solid 5.5 gold records out of 10

Dave from Winnipeg says:
You don't have to ask me twice to watch a really good Bret Hart match, and this was a really good Bret Hart match on this card. Unlike others I don't think it was better then Summerslam 92, but to each their own. It was different though as this time you had the face/heel dynamic instead of the babyface match they had at Wembley, so that's a point in its favour.
For the rest of the show, I thought that the Hog Pen Match was actually pretty good for what it was considering the restraints of it. Everything else on this card though was completely forgettable. It's a 6.5/10 show, with almost all of that score coming thanks to the main event. Thank you for the hours and hours of content you've provided us in 2012, and I'd like to wish you both a prosperous 2013.

I cant tell you how excited I was when I checked twitter n saw u were reviewing this. The best way I can describe my excitement is - its like hearing velvet sky and Kelly Kelly were going to do a lesbian scene. This was the only wrestling tape I had on VHS long ago and must hav seen it 1000 times. This was pretty much the first time I saw HHH and for years I kept referring to him as the girly man because of his pose. This show is the sole reason I believed the Godwins and Mabel/Viscera were over... I saw it again a couple years ago w my brother. He says it didnt live up to his nostalgia of it... But he also thinks Drake is a good musician. I on the other hand still consider it Wrestlemania... I give the show 10/10... I admit I hav nostalgia bias.

Solid choice for a review this week.
1995 was a cold year for the World Wrestling Federation. This show however was a combination of hot and cold.
The opening tag team match between Sid and 1-2-3 Kid against Razor Ramon and Marty Jannetty was average at best. If you watch this match now, you'd lose count of how many times Scott Hall and Jannetty have been arrested.
Ahmed Johnson's Promo after squashing Buddy Landell was painful to watch. The Future Big T. makes the Ultimate Warrior look like Chael Sonnen in terms of promo skills.
The Hog Pen between Helmsley and Godwinn was horrible. Who knew that Triple H would be the future head of the company after watching that train wreck?
Undertaker and Mabel's Casket Match was mediocre at best. After this year, Undertaker started to get better as an in-ring performer and became the great worker he is today.
Finally, The WWF Title match between Bret Hart and The British Bulldog saved this show with a great match that had great storytelling and a blade job by Bret despite being overshadowed by the contingent of ECW fans in the crowd.
Average Show. 5 EC Dub Chants out of 10.
Scott Putski Award goes to Davey Boy.

How ya lads, my thoughts on the show.....
What an odd pairing of marty and razor and Sid and the kid! It does have a nice ring to it though. Always thought it was such a shame Marty didn't get more recognition over the years as with the wwf behind him, he and Shawn could of had great feuds for years! Great opening match though with good work out of all participants.
I suppose its a sign of the times that lawler had a rat tail at the back of his crown, 90s fashion prevails! And Jeff Jarretts strut is clearly a piss take of ol naitch, but funny nonetheless.
Shane Douglas looked so young, it's amazing how much he aged in just a few more years in wcw. Was buddy landel using flairs theme? Looking at his hair and tights was he wwf s attempt to parody flair? I don't know cause I don't remember him at all! Thought it was ironic Ahmed was asking king 'do you understand' when clearly nobody could!
You can tell triple h was new and trying to impress as its one of the few times he was bumping and making people look good, as opposed to his reign of terror in the late 90's early 2000s.
The only thing I can say about Owen v diesel is just Owen really could do it all...so smooth in the ring!
Why on earth did they let Diana speak? It was pointless. Davey boy shouting the usual type of promo in 5 words or less, ' I am going to win!'. Cornette was excellent and summed up their rivalry very concisely! Was this actually 3 years since they faced? Have a hard time believing that! Bret was bleeding on par with Ric Flairs usual crimson mask, was blood a regular thing in wwf at this time? A few ecw chants from the crowd and after a few head locks I could see why. People were saying this was better than their wembley bout but I have to disagree. They wembley crowd was way more into that match.
Good show with short enough matches that didn't drag too long! Today's wwe should take note!
7/10

Kevin in Ireland.
Didn't watch the show, but have a Review a Wai related anecdote if you'll indulge me the time.
I'll preface this by saying I have a number of the shows saved on my phone. I work in a bank and was serving a customer, and I had my phone in my jacket pocket. Suddenly, the familiar guitar and vocal intro of "Still Waiting" by Sum 41 kicks off. It's amazing how time slows down when this happens and a dozen things crossed my mind in that second. "How did my phone start this by itself?" "How will my customer react when they hear the opening medley with Green Day and J-Lo?" "How will my manager react?" "Which show is it?" "Fuck! What if it's the Baywatch one?" "FUCK!! What if it's the Chyna porn?". But then a strange thing happened. The song continued. It turned out the customer that my co worker was serving had that Sum 41 song as his ringtone!! Needless to say, the sense of relief was unbelievable.
Keep up the good work, and have a Happy Christmas and New Year.

I just recently watched this so I was pumped you guys chose it. The start of the monthly WWF PPV schedule really shifted how angles were presented. With monthly PPVs WWF didn't have blowoffs to feuds on their big house shows, instead they were on PPVs which is so much more enjoyable for a tv viewer.
I think the end part of 95 was a pretty good period for the WWF. Most of the storylines were commonsensical and fun. Plus once Bret reclaimed the title ppv main events took a big step forward. Personally I like this Bret - Bulldog match better than the Summer Slam one, but the atmosphere and crowd from Wembley Stadium made that match so much more historic.
I see some people are confused about Landell he was just running the same gimmick he had his entire career, he does look out of place in a WWF ring in 1995 though.
Surprised no one mentioned Balls Mahony's debut as Xanta Claus, from the South Pole! Man sometimes I don't know what writers are thinking with a gimmick. what was the best case scenario for that character?? He had 1 TV match then vanished.
Hog Pen match was fun for watch it was. Hunter got a large gash on his back at the end of that match only to be quickly dropped in mud. Mud which had hogs walking and probably shitting in, it's amazing he didn't get some type of infection.
I liked the Diesel character at this time being a sort of tweener which was not normal for the time. This match was solid and kept the Owen taking credit for knocking Shawn out of action storyline moving.
All in all really enjoyed this show 8 out of 10

Thought I would leave a little feedback even though I didn't watch the entire show, but it has one of my favourite matches of all time on it, and like Wai, I have a fondness for this era of WWF.
I remember watching the Action Zone on TSN, Wednesday afternoons after school. In the lead-up to this match, they had Jim Ross break down the Bret/Bulldog match by looking at their previous Summerslam match. He talked how Bret needed to work on the Bulldog's legs and back so the sharpshooter would be effective; and how the Bulldog needed to use his strength to defeat Bret. He also discussed how Bret never defeated the Bulldog in singles competition, so he gave the advantage to Davey Boy. This was an excellent segment and I wish they would do this nowadays, it made it feel legitimate and like a real fight.
That said, I love this match, the image of Bret's blood staining the mat and Davey's tights gave it a gritty feeling that I hadn't seen before (at the time). The other memory of this match I had was Bulldog getting whipped into the corner and bouncing off his head, which looked sick. and the finish with Bret winning with the La Magistral cradle was creative. Bret had tried everything to beat Davey and couldn't do it, but he just kept reaching into his arsenal until he found something that worked.
I give the match a 10/10, and the entire PPV 16 mandarin oranges out of 44 stuffed racoons. Now for me to get back into the eggnog. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year John and Wai.

The only thing I remember from this show is the Hogpen match! The Blueblood against the Redneck. I was never a fan of either guy but I did kinda like the Godwynn gimmick. I always loved seeing guys get slopped and matches like this are great for nostalgia.

Really enjoyed watching this show back, the Royal Rumble 1996 was my first WWF event I remember watching on VHS and so this period is very nostalgic to me. The opening match too had SO many "1-2-3... No he kicked out damn it!" from Vince it was almost like he was putting them in for comedic value. I really enjoyed the competition for Bret's strap. It seemed like a shot at the title seemed VERY important and with Bret, Shawn, Bulldog, Diesel, Taker and even Owen chasing after it there were a lot of contenders who were over at the time. Also I think I get what the WWF saw in Ahmed Johnson. In the early 90's on UK Gladiators there was a massive black guy called Shadow who was found to be on steroids. They just fed guys to him to have the crap kicked out of them with a pugal stick. I've still yet to find out what pugal is but the UK fondly remembers sitting down with the whole family to watch Shadow let out some 'roid rage on another victim. Ahmed Johnson was tapping into that need, watch a massive incoherent guy beat guys up, minus pugal sticks. As for the show I was impressed overall, 2 hours is a great length for a B Show PPV and the WWE should take note, particularly as over-saturation is fast becoming a problem. The matches were solid and even the hog pen match was bearable! It gets 7 "what a maneuvers" out of 10

Can somebody please explain to me why Hunter is always in some sort of gimmick match. Can he just wrestle a match?
